Research Technician: Grant Writing and Editing

Wayne State University is searching for an experiencedResearch Technician: Grant Writing and Editingat its Detroit campus location.

Essential functions (job duties):

Essential Duties

Perform research on foundations, non-profit corporations, and government agencies to evaluate prospective grants; identify grant opportunities online and through other sources.

Working with Center directors and senior staff, write and edit portions of grant proposals, including:

outlining framework for proposal and draft proposal sections;

improving English usage and adapting text to produce a consistent style;

formatting contents according to academic style, if needed;

rewrite and edit copy to improve readability;

read copy or proof to detect and correct errors in spelling, punctuation, and typos;

check and correct grammar, subject-verb agreement, tenses etc.

Coordinate the completion of grant proposals including, but is not limited to, budgeting, adding supportive documentation.

High energy and passion for the Center's mission is essential. Assist with other fundraising projects as requested.

Unique duties:

Qualifications:

EDUCATION: Bachelors degree in social sciences, communications, marketing, business administration, or related field; Masters degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in a governmental, university or nonprofit organization; demonstrated success in a development function and grant writing; knowledge of University policies and procedures, including budgeting, is preferred. Proven track record in securing new funding opportunities.

WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS: Outstanding written communication skills and editing skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.

ORGANIZATIONAL: Taking initiative in helping to find funding is critical. Flexible and adaptable style; professional and resourceful; ability to work independently and as a team player.

ANALYTICAL: Must possess a demonstrated attention to detail in order to achieve a high degree of accuracy.

RESEARCH: Knowledge and familiarity with research techniques, and the ability to distinguish, incorporate, and identify funding opportunities for special programs.

COMPUTER: Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
