Job Purpose:

Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), Biobank Manager, and Biobank Research Assistant perform biobanking and support duties related to the accessioning, storage, retrieval, and record keeping for the biobank. In addition, the position will be responsible to receive, process, store, and ship samples for large scale multicenter clinical research projects. The position will also monitor the freezer, the WSU biobank freezers, and respond to freezer malfunctions in real time.

Essential Functions:

Assist Biobank Manager and Research Assistant with day-to-day tasks such as:

Prepare, process, and ship specimens/samples accurately under well-defined requirements, Food and Drug Administration (FDA), National Institute of Health (NIH), and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines/regulations. Capture and record data related to specimens. Assist in the generation of biobank data report for investigators.

Provide biobank assistance to our external collaborations.

Work safely under the Environment Health and Safety (EH&S) guidelines with potentially biohazardous biological specimens. Identify and mitigate risks to ensure accuracy in sample and data storage.

Provide 24/7 monitoring of freezers via smart Vue temperature monitoring system and respond to freezer malfunctions within protocol defined time frame.

Maintain the work area. Order and organize required supplies and records. Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstation.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience:

Entry level (less than a year of job-related experience).

Experience performing basic laboratory techniques.

Working knowledge of basic computer programs (WORD, EXCEL).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to work independently.

Ability to communicate in writing and verbally, empathetically, effectively, and professionally to a diverse population.

Ability to fluently speak, read, and write English.

Ability to clearly and effectively present information one-on-one and in groups.

Knowledge of scientific integrity principles.

Excellent time management and organization skills.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to work with others in a collaborative environment.

Proficient in Microsoft office software skills.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience working in Biobank software.
