SUMMARY:

The Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority (DRCFA), located at Huntington Place Convention Center in Detroit, Michigan, is looking for a Board Liaison. As the Board Liaison, and under the direction of the CEO, you will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with board members, facilitating efficient communication, and managing various aspects related to board activities. Your role will also encompass preparing board packets, board minutes, project management, technology management, providing administrative support for the Authority's CEO, CFO, CCO (Chief Construction Officer), and corporation counsel and responding to board requests.

JOB DUTIES:

  • Act as the primary point of contact for board members, fostering trust and effective communication.

  • Support the board and executive team in project management by assisting with information gathering, stakeholder communication, and monitoring project plans and responsibilities.

  • Coordinate and manage board meetings, including logistics, documentation, and follow-up on action items.

  • Prepare board packets and board minutes.

  • Manage board and committee communications, scheduling, and record keeping for both preparation and during meetings.

  • Provide administrative support for the Authority's CEO, CFO, COO, and corporation counsel.

  • Oversee technology management to ensure efficient operations.

  • Manage and reply to board requests promptly.

  • Utilize your paralegal background if applicable.

  • Collaborate with the executive team to provide support and guidance on sensitive and critical decision-making processes.

  • Stay up to date with board commitments and strategic relationships, providing timely updates and reminders to relevant stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of the industry, with particular knowledge of governmental entities, the hospitality industry and/or convention center operations, which will be considered a plus.

  • Perform any additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and advanced study in business or corresponding professional work experience.

  • Experience working with governmental boards of directors is essential.

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Proficiency with office equipment, computers, and associated business applications.

  • Software proficiency in Excel, Office365, and Word.

  • Courteous and positive attitude in dealing with the public and co-workers.

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Working knowledge of the hospitality industry and/or convention center operations is desirable.

  • Notary Public of Michigan or willingness to be appointed and serve.

The work environment for this position is a standard office setting. The successful candidate will primarily work indoors in a professional office space. The office is designed to promote productivity, collaboration, and employee well-being. It features designated workstations, meeting rooms, common areas, and ergonomic considerations.

The five-member Authority Board consists of one representative from each of five government agencies – the City of Detroit, State of Michigan and the three metro-Detroit counties of Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb.

Huntington Place is the 16th largest convention center in the United States. Built by the City of Detroit, it was originally opened in 1960 and named Cobo Hall in honor of former Detroit Mayor Albert E. Cobo (1950-1957). In 2019, the DRCFA awarded venue naming rights to TCF Bank, and in 2021 TCF Bank merged with Huntington Bank. Today, Huntington Place hosts conferences, conventions and tradeshows bringing 1.5 million visitors a year from across the globe to Detroit.
