Minimum Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to Michigan Bar or the ability to practice in-house for a Michigan company

  • 3 years of experience practicing as an attorney, with a focus on labor and employment law

  • Experience exercising independent judgment and discretion while utilizing company policies and practices to determine appropriate action

  • Experience with monitoring changes in employment law/policy and analyzing its impact on the business

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with ever-changing requirements

  • Skill at distilling abstract concepts into clear, simple terms coupled with effective legal advice

  • Exceptional organization and teamwork skills

  • Canadian employment law knowledge and experience

  • ERISA and employee benefits law knowledge and experience

  • Litigation experience defending labor and employment claims or prosecuting non-compete or trade secrets actions

  • Experience advising corporate clients on federal and state employment and labor laws, including FMLA, ADA, Title VII, FLSA, and any other state/federal employment laws in 50 states and Canada

  • Experience drafting employee equity plans and other compensation documents

Job Summary

As the Associate Counsel for employment, you'll work as part of the RKT Holdings Legal team on matters involving employment law for a variety of business partners. The ideal candidate has experience advising U.S. and Canadian clients on a wide variety of employment and labor law-related issues and has experience managing or handling employment-related litigation.

Responsibilities

  • Review, draft and prepare legal documents, such as employment agreements, policies, compensation plans, etc.

  • Research and advise on policies, procedures, statutes, and regulations

  • Advise and counsel internal clients regarding employment-related questions arising during the hiring process, employment relationship and post-employment

  • Investigate claims of harassment and discrimination

  • Review requests for personnel files or other employment-related documents received from third parties

  • Respond to charges from state and federal administrative agencies
