The Backhoe Loader (BHL) Engineering team is a global team spanning three continents. With design responsibility for the line-up of Caterpillar Backhoe Loader models, the team conducts design and development activity in the areas of New Product Introduction (NPI), quality improvement and new features implementation, requiring a strong understanding of diverse market needs from the different sales regions and ingenuity to satisfy those needs in the best way, balancing machine performance and productivity, reliability, first time purchase cost, owning and operating cost, ease of manufacture and assembly.

An exciting opportunity exists to lead the BHL Engineering team as an Engineering Manager- Current Product at our Desford facility. This role will be responsible for directing technical work relating to machines in current production and supervising a team of engineers.

Job duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead, prioritise and be accountable for all current product engineering work covering quality improvement, assembly line defects and commercial requests, and assign resources accordingly.

  • Project manage the more complex engineering changes, to achieve cross functional alignment.

  • Provide leadership oversight for Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) projects and drive to resolution.

  • Represent Product Engineering in working with the cross functional current product team.

  • Accountable for the design change launch and governance process.

  • Take part in or lead design reviews with the wider design team.

  • Collaborate with BHL engineering team members in global locations to drive consistent current product processes.

  • Supervise and mentor a team of 5-7 engineers in respect of day-to-day work direction, performance management and future career growth and development.

  • Support the processes for placement student and graduate recruitment and training.

Skills, experience & qualifications you will have;

  • Internal candidates must have satisfactorily completed a minimum of one years’ service in their current position to apply for another role, or have obtained, in writing, authorisation from their manager to waive this requirement. Candidates should always inform their manager prior to applying for any new role.

  • Internal candidates must not have any live disciplinaries or be on a performance action plan.

  • Knowledge or experience of mobile machinery, design, and operation

  • Strong analytical and a methodical, process mindset

  • Highly organised and able to manage multiple tasks.

  • Ability to work flexibly across time zones with cross functional, multi-cultural teams.

  • Willingness to travel

  • A strong team player

  • Able to relate well to different levels of the organisation.

  • Strong desire to build an effective team and grow team members.

Skills, experience & qualifications you may have;

  • Degree (or international equivalent) in an accredited Engineering curriculum

  • Experience of New Product Introduction projects

  • Experience of leading projects and supervising team members

Job Title: Current Product Supervisor

Salary: £59,800-£72,000 depending on experience
