Position: Product Development Manager (Footwear)

How You Will Make a Difference

The primary responsibility of the Product Development Manager is to drive the end-to-end development process to produce best in class market product from concept thru buy ready. This means overseeing and monitoring cross functional efforts across the brand. The Product Development Manager plays a key role by partnering w/ Category Merchandising and Design partners to fully commercialize the product line on calendar and at cost. The Product Development manager will be responsible for driving the development execution across teams and will ultimately be accountable for organizing the cross functional design, technical, materials, sourcing, and quality teams to finalize the product.

In addition, the manager is responsible for collaborating with factory partners, supply chain ops, regional sourcing teammates and licensees to develop competitive sourcing strategies and best costing. They will oversee the wear test protocol for advanced proof of concept development as well as general in season “Fit for use” wear testing.

What you will do:

  • Leads a team and drives cross functional coordination of the product development process for his/her assigned categories.

  • Plans and tracks the development schedule of all products to ensure a timely completion following the pre-determined product development calendar.

  • Ensures both the technical superiority and the product quality/integrity of all products falling under their responsibilities.

  • Develops products, recommends materials, and construction techniques that meet Design expectations and meet or exceed predetermined gross margin targets and performance expectations.

  • Ensures execution of fit intent and fit consistency through clear analysis and documentation communication.

  • Aligns on the specifications for the products w/ Design, Technical Development, and Materials.

  • Publishes, and maintains all records and style files associated with the product creation process.

  • Partner with Technical Development, Design and Material Sourcing to work w/ manufacturers to develop new materials, construction techniques, processes, and samples used to create innovative and technically superior products each season.

  • Partner with Regional Sourcing Offices on product allocation decisions for all Global product, as well as cost and margin rolls ups and style development/production minimum issues for resolution with internal teams.

  • Partner with Merchandising, Finance and Regional Sourcing Offices rolling up costs and margins to ensure correct pricing architecture for brand and marketplace is achieved.

  • Determines and coordinates which styles should be delivered for “fit for use” wear testing.

  • Interacts with Merchandising, Design, Marketing and Quality Assurance to distribute product technical details and assure the accuracy, legality, and integrity of all product performance claims.

  • Performs these and other duties as assigned.

Educational Position Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in Technical Design/Product Development in a medium or large size company, preferably in the outdoor industry.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or Manufacturing; or Degree or Certification in Apparel Design, construction, and/or patternmaking; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Overall understanding of the outdoor market, development processes and the competition landscape and a participatory knowledge of the represented sports is helpful.

  • Some overseas travel required 5% of time.

Hiring Range :

$99,360.00 USD - $124,200.00 USD annually

Incentive Potential : This position is eligible for additional compensation awards that may include an annual incentive plan, sales incentive, or commission potential. Specific details of the additional compensation eligibility for this position will be provided during the recruiting and interview process.
