Job Summary

The Infectious Disease (ID) Physician provides direct clinical care for patients by diagnosing infections and prescribing or administering treatments. The ID Physician examines patients, obtains medical histories, and orders, performs, and interprets diagnostic tests. The ID Physician works in close communication with the unit's multidisciplinary team which includes social work, care management, medical assistants, nursing, research, pharmacy and others to help coordinate comprehensive care for their patients. ID Physicians perform outpatient visits in the Public Health ID, STD, and TB clinics and/or other clinics within or outside of Denver Health. Many ID Physicians spend time covering the inpatient general infectious diseases or orthopedic infectious diseases consult service. ID Physicians are faculty members of the University of Colorado, School of Medicine in the Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases.

The Public Health Institute at Denver Health (PHIDH) is recruiting a physician, board-certified in Infectious Diseases, to be the Medical Director of the Tuberculosis (TB) Clinic. The TB Clinic serves 7 counties in metro Denver and has a long tradition of providing high-quality, patient-centered care. It is also a site for the CDC-funded TB Trials Consortium (TBTC) and TB Epidemiologic Studies Consortium (TBESC). The staff is dedicated to improving TB prevention and care through education, research, and innovation. The Medical Director, working with a leadership team, is responsible for the administrative, clinical, and research activities

Additional clinical opportunities include working in the ID/HIV Clinic, the Denver Sexual Health Clinic, and the hospital ID consult service. Denver Health values educating the future healthcare workforce and physicians have faculty appointments in the University of Colorado's School of Medicine. PHIDH strives to understand, acknowledge, and address systemic and structural barriers that perpetuate racial inequities in health outcomes and provide care and prevention services to underserved communities.

Essential Functions: Conducts clinical activities as defined in the privileging documents for this provider and delivers superior patient care by: - Determining and assessing the health status of patients by reviewing records, taking comprehensive medical histories, and performing physical examinations. - Monitoring and evaluating the medical condition of patient. - Making decisions regarding treatment changes and referring patient to specialized services as needed. - Applying thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment. - Encouraging increased patient understanding and involvement in care. (65%) Initiates, performs, or directs other healthcare professionals to perform screenings and diagnostic tests. (15%) Serves as a teacher for students seeking clinical experience at Denver Health and provides education for post graduate medical trainees. (10%) Provides leadership to improve outcomes and service quality. (5%) Works to ensure personnel, department, and organization are in compliance with all legal and educational requirements. (5%)

Education: Doctorate Degree Graduation from an Accredited Medical School and completed Accredited Residency Programs and fellowships for specialist, or equivalent

Licenses: MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures and techniques. Skill in eliciting history from patients, performing physical exams, formulating assessments, and determining treatment plans for patients. Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in the treatment of infectious diseases. Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care. Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment. Ability to respond appropriately in emergency situations. Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills. Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels, and value systems. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required. EPIC experience preferred.
