Job Description

Targeted Annual Pay Range: Minimum of $6 5000 to a maximum of $85000

This is a Full-time position

Position Purpose:

Responsible for reviewing and approving non-hazardous industrial waste for landfill disposal at Veolia landfills and case-by-case approvals for facilities in accordance with site capabilities, approved permits, and appropriate regulatory requirements. Determine acceptability or rejection of chemical components of waste materials utilizing a variety of analytical, MSDS's, and facility information to expedite non-hazardous waste in a timely manner to the satisfaction of the customer and facility personnel. Conduct special waste audits of landfills. Ensures that approval process is in proper compliance with company policies and procedures.

Primary Duties/responsibilities:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of disposal capabilities and WAP requirements for sites, with the ability to complete final approval.

  • Develop a thorough understanding of local, state, and federal regulations regarding disposal and transportation of hazardous waste.

  • Review facility paperwork (i.e. Waste Profile Sheets, Supplemental Forms, WAR, etc.) for accuracy and completeness.

  • Identify deficiencies/discrepancies with profile sheet information and representative sample analysis in coordination with customer service, laboratory, and sales coordinators. Communicate with customers to resolve as required.

  • Complete and/or revise documents as necessary to execute or to update disposal decision, including 5 page profile sheet, disposal decision, and site addenda and receiving forms.

  • Provide technical assistance to approval chemists, approval support staff, and sales and customer service on matters such as site acceptability of waste streams, discrepancy resolution, and site permit requirements.

  • Identify and select appropriate analytical testing requirements for waste treatment and disposal.

  • Communicate with operations and environmental departments regularly regarding acceptance of material from the standpoint of permits, operations, and safety, and keep technical staff updated on any changes in acceptance conditions.

  • Receive and process requests for profile modifications efficiently and accurately. Contact internal and external customers to resolve issues during the modification process. Update AS400 and approval records to properly document modification requests.

  • Evaluate reactive waste streams to determine what hazards they may present.

  • Evaluate reactive waste streams to be shipped in over-packed drums to determine the underlying reason drums needed to be over packed.

  • If the potential hazards involved in managing a particular waste stream cannot be determined from the documentation and reference manuals available, contact the generator and/or manufacturer to obtain required information.

  • Consult with internal resources including Health and Safety, EMD, Approval and Operations to ensure that reactives and over packed drums can be safely managed.

  • Provide technical assistance to sales, customer service and customers for the safe handling, packaging, storage and incineration of reactives.

  • Provide technical support to receiving and operations departments.

  • Develop, in consultation with Operations and Accounting, total costs to approve, receive, process and incinerate various reactives.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education / Experience / Background:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required

  • B.A/B.S preferred not required.

  • Minimum of 2 years chemical industry or regulatory experience required

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of hazardous waste treatment, regulations and disposal

  • Working knowledge of State and Federal regulations regarding hazardous waste management (i.e. RCRA, TSCA, DOT, and LDR regulations)

  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Suite

  • Strong team player

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines

  • Strong customer orientation
