Summary:

Meta is seeking a forward thinking, experienced IT professional with technical leadership experience and skills in server hardware focusing on mechanical engineering related elements that include liquid cooling, thermal, server chassis, and rack design. Broad experience in the data center environment and server technologies that includes high performance compute, storage, GPU/accelerators, and/or networking is a plus. Our data centers, and the tens of thousands of servers installed in them, are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates and on which our innovative services are delivered. Meta is at the leading edge of the global data center industry, both in design and operations. Our Production Platform Engineers are responsible for the operational performance of the (compute, storage, and GPU/accelerator) platforms and technologies in our data centers. They are responsible for the health of the server fleet, from NPI production operational test through end-of-life. Responsibilities include identifying systemic hardware, firmware, and tooling issues; engaging in hands-on problem solving; and collaborating effectively with engineering, tooling, and onsite provisioning and break-fix teams to improve performance of the fleet. This position requires a high degree of ownership and understanding of mechanical and thermal platform elements, leveraging technical expertise and using data to identify trends across the fleet and proactively identify and mitigate performance and reliability issues. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to collaborate with multiple teams in a large scale, distributed environment is required to be effective in this role.

SiteOps Global Production Platform Engineer Responsibilities:

1. Serve as data center operations SME (subject matter expert) leading mechanical engineering centric server impacting elements or platforms that include liquid cooling, thermal, server chassis, and rack designs

2. Influence compute, storage, and GPU/accelerator platform performance in Meta’s production data centers, anticipating and diagnosing issues for the data center operations teams, and escalating as appropriate to hardware design and NPI teams

3. Provide end-to-end lifecycle ownership (verification test through end of life decommissioning) of hardware platforms and new technologies in the data centers

4. Drive complex technical investigations globally and spanning multiple disciplines such as Hardware, Software/Firmware, Networking and Power & Cooling

5. Analyze health of the global fleet of servers to proactively identify systemic issues, and take appropriate action to quickly mitigate impact

6. Work closely with HW Engineering, Release-to-Production, and Systems Integration teams taking new technologies and server platforms into mass production in the data centers

7. Identify risks early in new hardware programs and contribute the test methods needed to characterize the product and assure end-customer needs are met

8. Act as product owner for operational aspects of specific server and/or storage platforms. Ensure that outcomes of root cause analysis are addressed, in collaboration with hardware and software engineering teams

9. Issue timely alerts and fixes to operations teams, and assure a robust feedback pipeline to engineering teams

10. Build strong relationships and collaboration with engineering and cross functional teams across the company. Actively solicit feedback from teams, and use that feedback to improve operational effectiveness as infrastructure scales

11. Provide serviceability feedback on production hardware resulting in more efficient repair activities

12. Ability to travel up to 30% required

13. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

14. 10+ years of experience with server hardware system elements that include driving mechanical and thermal dependencies in an internet operations environment, or on a development team in design or test validation. This specifically includes experience in liquid cooling, thermal, and/or mechanical system and rack designs.

15. Experience triaging and debugging hardware platforms

16. Familiarity or experience in NPI server platform development

17. Familiarity with Linux or Unix Operating systems

18. Experience training and mentoring technicians and/or engineers

19. Demonstrated technical skills and experience creating documentation for users of all levels

20. Communication experience and interpersonal skills, with the experience communicating and partnering effectively within all levels of the organization

21. Experience with building relationships with customers and vendors

22. Expert at leveraging large volumes of data to improve decision making processes in the hardware functional domain (understanding the metrics and statistics)

28. Bash, PHP, Python, or Perl scripting experience

Public Compensation:

$163,000/year to $225,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
