Ford Motor Company Die Engineer Strategy Manager in Dearborn, Michigan

Die Engineering Manager (LL5) Responsible for all North America die process and engineering. This position will be responsible for continuous YoY improvements in the areas of supplier TGW reductions and simulation coorelation of physical to predicted values.

  • Work cross functionally across multiple global regions in support of new model program die construction engineering.

  • Work closely with internal die construction facility to try out new technology and quality improvement projects to advance design methods for continuous improvement.

  • Drive collaboration efforts with internal die construction source to improve dimensional correlation between physical panels and simulation results through continuous improvements to the model.

  • Lead design and process teams for YoY reductions in TGWs

  • Support simulation morph files updates to achieve alignment between sim to scan comparison.

  • Deliver production die process, die design and all engineering for new model programs in-house parts in NA.

  • Managing all engineering suppliers, sourcing, costs and resource planning to deliver cycle plan within the investment targets – Lowest tool investment

  • Develop flexible resource plans leveraging global footprint and alignment with internal die construction source to maximize internal and external capacity.

  • Continuous Improvement actions in all aspects for stamping process and tooling: Improvements based on feedback from tool construction, launch/production, close the gap between Virtual engineering prediction and Physical outcome.

  • Maintaining and updating global engineering PDPD die process and Die standards to achieve minimal quality loops at both internal and external die construction sources.

  • Lead die engineering TVM implementation for high $ value TVM proposals ($1.0 mil savings/year or more)

  • Supporting upstream cycle planning and feasibility studies as required.

  • Supporting MSAP with program cost studies, Optimal press loading, retirement of stamping assets, other what-if studies to support Strategic stamping business planning, footprint optimization, and Labor negotiations.

  • Supporting stamping plant post MP1 changes on an as-needed basis.

  • Interface with GDME on all aspects of die engineering digital enablers and leveraging low cost resource opportunity.

  • Organization people development – leadership and technical skills + succession planning. Play a lead role in FCG and early career talent development.

  • Support Die Construction manager in sourcing decision forum to assign work amongst all construction sources providing input for die design resource support.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. Engineering degree required.

  • 10 years+ experience in Die Process, Die Design, CAE, and Die Construction

  • Stamping specific knowledge and experience in Aluminum intensive vehicle – engineering, tool design standards, production, and tool maintenance considerations.

  • Working knowledge CAD software Catia V5, Stamping CAE simulation software (Autoform or LS-Dyna)

  • Knowledge and experience with CAE failure criteria for stamping feasibility, stamping tooling construction, and trouble-shooting stamping launch issues.

  • Leadership communication skills consistent with reporting out to Chief Engineer, Director and VP level leadership.

  • Extensive understanding of Tooling SOW requirements for stamping engineering and die construction.
