POSITION SUMMARYThe Software Development Engineer – Backend is primarily responsible for crafting, developing, and coding solutions to meet customer expectations and specifications as discussed and detailed in Epics, Features, and Stories (SAFe Agile process). Expertise and input into designs and technology solutions will facilitate accurate decision-making and mitigate development and implementation risks. This engineer will be a part of our Health Services organization which is comprised of numerous teams that support, enhance, and create new programs and services that support our suite of health services including Minute Clinic and Virtual Care. The development of these programs will help build our next-generation scheduling platform to ensure support lines of business across our enterprise focusing on helping people live healthier lives. In this role and within this team, you will work on applications and products that are on the forefront of technology.

What you will do

  • Designs and defines the technical architecture and infrastructure required for digital solutions.

  • Writes code, develops software components, and implements complex functionalities according to project requirements.

  • Collaborates with other members of the development team and stakeholders to make high-level architectural decisions, proposes design patterns, and ensures scalability, performance, and maintainability of digital solutions.

  • Leverages advanced programming skills to design and implement complex features, optimize performance, and ensure code efficiency.

  • Integrates various software components or systems, ensuring seamless communication and interoperability between different parts of the digital solution.

  • Writes and executes comprehensive test cases, conducts code reviews, performs debugging, and troubleshoots issues to ensure the reliability, stability, and high quality of digital solutions.

  • Participates in agile or other development methodologies, attends meetings, contributes to project planning, and helps drive the progress and success of digital projects.

  • Explores new tools, frameworks, and techniques to improve digital solutions and drive innovation within the development team.

  • Creates and maintains technical documentation, including system designs, architecture diagrams, code documentation, and other relevant documentation while sharing their knowledge and expertise with team members, ensuring effective knowledge transfer and collaboration.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience in large scale software development

  • 5+ years of experience in developing applications/web services and cloud native apps using Java, Spring Boot, REST API, webservices, JPA, Junit, Mockito and other tech stacks (Open source and proprietary)

  • 3+ years of experience with Agile development

  • 3+ years of experience with containerization and orchestration technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes etc)

  • 3+ years of experience working in cloud platforms like GCP, AZURE, AWS etc.

  • 3+ years of experience with build and deploy services using GitHub, CircleCI, Harness, Jenkins, GITLab as part of CI/CD

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A track record of writing clean, high-quality, high-performing, scalable code.

  • Strong troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience with optimization skills to improve performance, scalability, and usability of our applications.

  • Good presentation and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience working with distributed systems.

  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment.

  • Good understanding and working experience in IT Security best practices and other compliance standards such as ADA, HIPAA, PCI DSS.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree or, equivalent experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range

The typical pay range for this role is:

$97,335.00 - $201,900.00

This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above.
