UPMC MRI Technologist in Cumberland, Maryland

UPMC Western Maryland is looking to add an MRI Technologist to their team! This casual position will work varying shifts in accordance with department needs. As an MRI Technologist, you will perform imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains clinical competency for all exams and equipment.

  • Identifies all patients properly by using two patient identifiers and utilizes universal protocol when performing procedures. Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in the acquisition of data including the labeling /preparation/and administration of contrast. Documents patient history in electronic record as required.

  • Prior to start of exam, reads and presents all relevant information to the physician based on protocol

  • Ensures all exams within his/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through RIS system, all patient information is updated and documented in Rad Assessment, all exams are properly networked to ISITE for archiving and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the exams performed.

  • Practices and maintains MR safety in the department.

  • Demonstrates a strong ability to interact with both patients and co-workers, while displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity and respect. Able to work as team member within the department and all other departments to expedite patient care efficiently.

  • Performs procedures for reviewing, processing and archiving.

  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explain procedures to help allay the patient's fears and solicit their cooperation.

  • Performs all job responsibilities of Level I MRI Technologist including practices and maintains MR safety in the department, addresses patient safety through proper patient identification, labeling/preparation/and administration of contrast and communicating according to standard operating procedures, completes procedures according to protocol while presenting relevant information to physician, and updates and documents patient information into rad assessment.

  • Demonstrates complete operation of specialty equipment, analyzes data promptly, and completes quality control activities.

  • Promptly responds to medical editing requests.

  • Demonstrates the ability to function independently, and is able to cover off shifts, on-call responsibilities, and perform services at satellite facilities, where applicable, while continually communicating with lead and management team.

  • Assist with the training of staff and students.

  • Participates in standardization activities with system-level workgroups.

  • Works directly with Radiologists regarding protocol development.

  • Performs or assists Clinical Specialist in performing QA, regulatory testing, and other technical and research initiatives.

  • Graduate of an ARRT approved school of Radiologic Technology, or completion of an accredited CNMT program or accredited ARDMS program.

  • Must be a Radiology Tech in Maryland with AART certification.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Must be a licensed Radiology Tech in Maryland with AART certification.

  • ARRT Certificate

  • ARRT Certificate OR Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification (NMTC) OR Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS)

  • ARRT Magnetic Resonance Imaging (Must obtain MR registry within 18 months of hire date.)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
