About Us The St. Louis Jewish Community Center (the J) has been providing excellent health and cultural experiences for the entire community for over 140 years. We are hiring for Operations Specialist to join our team to work in our facilities both in Creve Coeur and Chesterfield. This is a full-time, hourly position. Summary: The Maintenance Supervisor is dedicated to fulfilling the Jewish Community Centers (the Js) mission of enriching lives, building community, promoting inclusivity, and creating meaningful Jewish experiences. The Supervisor proactively collaborates across departments to create and implement strategies to ensure the buildings and grounds are maintained to the highest standard. Responsibilities include the overall oversight and management of the Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Operations. Responsibilities:

  • Hire, lead, manage, and supervisor team members to set and achieve goals while supporting their development through ongoing feedback, performance reviews, managing payroll software, and providing training. This includes ensuring appropriate scheduling of the team and directing work including modernization.
  • Serve as an onsite contact for contractors during repairs and renovations.
  • In conjunction with the Maintenance Manager and Director of Building and Grounds, provide input into and manage the annual budget including preparing project estimates and budgets and assisting with the annual capital expenditure budget.
  • Perform cost effective daily maintenance and preventative maintenance. This includes all pool, heating and air conditioning equipment, and managing the department work order computer system as well as the agency computerized HVAC control systems.
  • Supervise repairs, replacements, additions, and alterations of physical plant and departmental equipment when executed by employees and/or outside contractors. Assist when needed.
  • Be responsible for operation of physical plant and departmental equipment including scheduling and ensuring all routine building maintenance is complete and following up on all phases of departmental work.
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager on all room rentals and usage to ensure appropriate set-up and breakdown of rooms. Directly assist as needed.
  • Oversee all laundry and porter services during open hours. Directly assist as needed.
  • Schedule staff to ensure appropriate coverage.
  • Maintain general cleanliness tasks during operating hours such as restocking paper towels, wiping down the counters, picking up used towels, cleaning unexpected spills, etc.
  • Provide outstanding customer service to our staff, members and customers in all interactions.
  • Assist with the day-to-day operations of the Building and Grounds Department at Fox and SFC, in relation to staffing, maintenance, operations, room set up and cleaning as needed.
  • Be available and responsive for building wide events and emergencies, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications:

  • Five years of experience in construction and maintenance of industrial, public, or institutional buildings, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.
  • Three to five years of experience in electrical (110, 220, 440), plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and general repair are required.
  • High School Diploma/GED required; Related College or Technical degree preferred.
  • Current MO Class E Chauffeurs license is required for use of Agency vehicles. Must obtain within 30 days of employment if do not currently have.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) preferred. If not, will train withi 90 days.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification preferred. If not, will train.
  • Thorough knowledge of building codes, shop practice, and engineering design.
  • Knowledge of building construction methods, materials, and equipment. Experience leading or supporting a building renovation a plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and projects simultaneously and prioritize appropriately.
  • Must have the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with other JCC staff, lay leaders and customers.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills including ability to be approachable while also holding people accountable.
  • Flexible schedule to allow for weekend and evening work is required.
  • Able to volunteer to work set up and tear down for events. May require adjusting hours or time outside of normal business hours.

Physical Demands:

  • Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screening.
  • Work is performed while standing, sitting and/or walking.
  • Requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing with the ability to read and understand written material and instructions and write detailed repair reports.
  • Requires the use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
  • Requires bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, reaching.
  • Requires the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects not to exceed 80 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to hear bearing and motor noises.
  • Requires the ability to climb and work with the use of a ladder up to 25 ft in elevation.
  • Requires the ability to work inside and outside in all types of weather.
  • This position is part of our random drug screening process which includes screening for cannabis.
