ROLE OVERVIEW

Thiess is currently looking to fill the Maintenance Lead Hand position. In this role you will be supervising the overall day to day, performance, coordination, management, and maintenance of the specified mining crew to assist in obtaining safety, productivity, efficiency, quality, service and profitability for the organization.  as well as bringing a positive and. Most importantly, understands that our people, our teamwork and a positive culture are what create a dedicated and enjoyable workplace.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Direct the activities of a Mine Maintenance crew to maintain mobile equipment in a manner which improves the safety, efficiency, and endurance of our fleet.
  • Review, and manage the completion of, work orders for Preventive Maintenance, Planned Component Replacement, and Unplanned Repairs.
  • Assure all PM and backlog paperwork are complete to include detailed documentation of repair and additional parts required.
  • Prepare reports on accident/incident that happen during the shift
  • Conduct daily pre-shift meetings to ensure employees are informed of safety and production issues
  • Ensure that all mining employees are properly trained on the use of appropriate equipment
  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment
  • Ensure employee Health and safety through compliance with all safety and mine regulations, company policies and regulations
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

     

*REQUIRED SKILLS *  

  • Minimum of 5 years heavy equipment mechanic experience in an open cut mining environment 
  • Experience working on :CAT 789, LIE T264, KOM 830E, HIT EX5600, LIE R996 size equipment and greater
  • Demonstrated ability to always achieve results within a team environment under minimal supervision
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent planning, leadership, organization, and communication skills
  • High level of attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills
  • Solid understanding of business professionalism
  • Ability to communicate and interact within all levels of the organization

     

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to lift 50 pounds  
  • Able to live and work at high altitudes (12,000 ft. elevation) for a week at a time  
  • Able to work in extreme winter conditions with temperatures regularly below zero degrees Fahrenheit  
  • Able to stand for extended periods of time, walk long distances, and climb ladders  
  • Able to work for extended 12-hour shifts  
  • No auditory or visual impairments restricting the ability to see distances while driving and clearly discern auditory and visual alerts/alarms (not including color blindness)  
  • Quick respon e/reaction times  
  • Arm-hand steadiness and manual dexterity 

     

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in diesel mechanics, mechanical engineering, or related field
  • Post-high school technical training or certification in diesel mechanics, welding, mine maintenance, or other similar training
