University of Miami Associate Director for Cane Navigators in Coral Gables, Florida

The Associate Director will have oversight for the Student Success function and Academic ‘Cane Navigators for a school/college/unit. The Associate Director will partner closely with Student Success leadership and school/college academic leadership and faculty to ensure alignment of support services provided to undergraduate students. Working collaboratively with the school/college and campus partners, a holistic student-centered approach will be employed to support students in all aspects of their academic journey.
• Provide oversight and leadership for 'Cane Navigators assigned to the school/college/ department.
•Develop student success programs, activities, and functions in collaboration with school/college/department that enhance retention and graduation.
• Collaborate with supervisor to develop plans for the implementation of new or modified university policies and procedures.
• Compile reports and analyze data to ensure data informed decision-making.
• May serve on University committees tasked with disseminating student success information.
• May present at meetings, workshops, and conferences for internal and external audiences.
• Deescalate student concerns or issues and work with relevant offices when needed.
• Provide student success and coaching services to support undergraduate student retention and graduation.
• Serve as the primary contact for assigned students throughout their entire undergraduate career and assist with academic planning and graduation plans.
• Proactively support students on their success journey and assist them in mapping out their individual pathway to graduation.
• Educate students on experiential learning opportunities (e.g., study abroad, research, etc.)
• Gain knowledge and confidence to inform students on relevant career development information as a career champion.
• Support students' academic, social, and personal issues, identify barriers to success and support students in overcoming them, and refer students to the appropriate campus resource office when needed. Ensure follow-up of referrals.
• Employ best practices in student success and coaching methodology. Build relationships with undergraduate students and deliver consistently high-quality services.
• Explain academic policies, procedures, and guidelines and help students navigate the school/college/department and university-level administrative processes.
• Provide students with information related to services, resources, and programming that enhance the student experience.
• Work with students to identify and achieve their academic and professional goals.
• Accurately guide students in academic planning, including major, minor, cognate and other requirements.
• Develop, monitor, and update degree plans and academic records and regularly track progress and student engagement to ensure a timely graduation.
• Use the degree progress report, academic degree planner, Peoplesoft, student success dashboards, and reports to create pathways for progression and timely graduation.
• Facilitate registration overrides, registration permissions, course substitutions, removing advising holds, and prerequisite checks.
• Monitor student academic progress and satisfaction.
• Know and keep up to date on the academic bulletin, academic calendar, services, resources, and programs across the University.
• Partner with academic and non-academic units (e.g., Counseling Center, Veteran Resource Center, International Student and Scholar Services, Housing and Residential Life, Orientation and Commuter Student Involvement, etc.)
• Use tools, analytical dashboards, and technology fully to manage student success and student communication, maintain accurate student records, and document student interactions in EAB Navigate.
• Achieve established unit benchmarks, customer service standards, key performance indicators, and daily productivity metrics.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development programs.
• Consistent with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines, interacts with parents and families of students, faculty, social worker/case management to support students.
• Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and exercises sound judgment.
• Assigned to specific cohort of students and make student assignments for ‘Cane Navigators. Assess workloads and quality of service provided to the students and adjust, as necessary.
• May be assigned an additional number of students to support, as needed.
• Assist supervisor with creating strategies for enrollment and registration campaigns and tracking outcomes.
• Assess 'Cane Navigator use of student success technologies, tools, and dashboards.
• Participate in student events and programs within school or college unit as well as in collaboration with other campus partners.
• Mentor, train, and supervise ’Cane Navigators.
• Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
Minimum of 4 years of experience in advising, counseling and/or customer service is preferred. Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
Supervisory experience.
Candidate must have passion and dedication for providing students and their families with thorough, compassionate support, and the utmost care.
A keen ability to build relationships and connect with members across campus to ensure thorough, well-rounded support and solutions to students and their families.
