Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):
Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Biology or related field. Previous internship or work experience in a laboratory or research environment. Preferred Qualifications:
One (1) year of full-time lab experience. Experience administering research-based assessments. Experience with Microsoft Office.
Brief Description of Duties:
The World Trade Center Health Program works to provide the WTC 9/11 responder community with the best comprehensive care possible. The Research Laboratory Specialist will track and process blood samples for future World Trade Center related studies. The overall purpose of these studies is to examine the complexity of health issues experienced by WTC responders following their involvement in the rescue, and/or clean-up effort after the 9/11 WTC disaster and how these health issues may be related to each other so that better strategies can be identified to target WTC-related illnesses. In light of the important treatment implications of the proposed analyses for this population, it is imperative to create a high-quality dataset for this purpose.

The Research Laboratory Specialist will be responsible for tracking and processing blood samples for various World Trade Center related research studies. The incumbent will log and keep track of all clinic samples from both the Westbury and Commack clinics and then send out a daily report. They will collect and transport all World Trade Center blood samples as needed, at least once a week, for long-term storage at Stony Brook University Hospital. Additionally, the incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the equipment in the lab is kept in good working condition, necessary supplies are always in stock, and the lab is kept in clean working order. Duties:

  • Process various blood samples to prepare them for storage and analysis.
  • Log and keep track of all World Trade Center blood samples, sending a daily report each day.
  • Collect and transport all World Trade Center blood samples as needed at least once a week for long-term storage at Stony Brook University Hospital.
  • Ensure all equipment is kept in good condition, that supply requests are made well in advance, and the lab is kept clean and organized at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. Occasional Evenings and Saturdays will be required.
