Huntington National Bank Segment Risk Officer - Senior - Enterprise Payments in Columbus, Ohio

Description

Responsible for the development and oversight of Huntington’s risk management protocols in the Enterprise Payment Segment, manage tasks and activities related to risk management initiatives to support the Enterprise Payments Risk Management team in a well-managed capacity. Develops, recommends, and administers risk management processes and procedures for the assigned segment, ensuring internal controls are operating effectively. Provide Payment Systems risk consulting and effective challenge to business partners through demonstration of deep understanding of payment activities. Engage with business areas throughout the enterprise and with risk management partners to review, analyze and challenge Payment Systems risks and controls through governance forums, in addition to ad-hoc engagement on projects. Develop and leverage key relationships with cross-functional teams and key first line of defense contacts at senior levels within the organization, providing advice and effective challenge, as required. Conduct Issue/Event analysis by observing trends, external risk themes and providing insights on changes to the Payments Risk environment across the enterprise. Ensures compliance with Issues Risk Management policy in the identification, assessment, and response to segment issues. Coordinates regulatory and internal audit examination activity, ensuring appropriate responses are implemented.

Skills:

  • Well-versed in industry best practices, tools, and techniques for payment systems and funds movement risk within a regulated financial institution.

  • Experience enabling B2C and B2B Payment System technological capabilities within a regulated financial institution

  • Deep knowledge of risk with various payments products/ processes with a view to emerging risks on the payments landscape and standards for Financial Institutions and FinTechs and experience with risk management policies standards, metrics and controls

  • Experience with direct customers as well as third party payment processors

  • Understands the regulatory landscape with respect to payment practices and experienced in presenting and working with regulators

  • Certification within the payments industry (e.g., AAP, APRP).

  • Experience enabling risk technologies for managing payments risks in C2C, C2B, B2C and B2B payments within a regulated financial institution.

  • Excellent negotiation, influencing, and partnership skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree

Experience:

  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in banking or financial services, leading operational & risk strategy programs

  • Experience leading & transforming an Enterprise Payment Segment with background in these four key areas:

  • Foundational Risk Management (operational, Fraud, AML and Credit)

  • Technology Risk Management

  • Commercial / Treasury Risk Management

  • Retail / Consumer Risk Management

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience ensuring the overall Wholesale and/or Retail Payment Systems risk function, is effectively supporting strategic goals,

  • Experience with both consumer/ retail and business/ commercial/ wholesale payment products, payment flows - B2B and B2C payments as well as experience with Payment rails (ACH, RTP), Embedded banking, emerging payment products/ payment ecosystems (Apple, Paypal, Venmo)

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience as a hands-on leader with a proven record of leading & growing successful teams

  • Experience with Risk assessment/ control management, incident management, exam management, process and change management and regulatory compliance (including working with regulators)
