The Opportunity

The USAA Insurance Marketing team plays a pivotal role in driving growth for USAA, with laser focus on our mission to serve the military community and their families. Our objective is to achieve profitable growth in various P&C, Life and Health and Financial Protection products in a direct-to-consumer distribution model and through strategic partners. Our team of Marketing experts is dedicated to understanding the unique needs of current and potential USAA members, ensuring that we deliver targeted messages at the right time to drive consideration and conversion of USAA products. We are experts in direct marketing channels and firmly believe in making data-driven investment decisions.

As the AVP, Media Channel Management you will lead a team of highly talented marketing channel professionals, responsible for developing and executing the paid media and owned channel marketing strategy to drive profitable growth in USAA Insurance products. This executive leadership role includes overseeing the planning, execution, budget management, and ongoing optimization of marketing campaigns across paid and owned channels, with an emphasis on digital and complemented with affiliate marketing and offline channels, including direct mail. The AVP, Channel Management will oversee a team that works closely with the Insurance Product Marketing, Creative and Analytics functions, and provides leadership to external agency partners and that serves as the primary interface with the media enablement team in the centralized marketing support functions.

What you’ll do:

  • Jointly accountable to production goals across each Insurance product

  • Oversees planning, execution, budget management and ongoing optimization of Insurance marketing campaigns across all paid channels (including Paid Search, Paid Social, Programmatic, Affiliates), in coordination with Product Marketing leaders to achieve production goals; continuous test-and-learn required

  • Develops and executes owned channel marketing strategy for Insurance products (including Email, Real-time Web, Outbound Calling, and Direct Mail)

  • Accountable for cross-media channel strategy for Insurance products to deliver on production goals

  • Owns tracking and monitoring of all Paid and Owned channel performance in platforms for ongoing optimizations; coordinates with Analytics team

  • Drives media innovations to expand reach and efficient production for core and nascent innovative products and channels (e.g. SMS, new media platforms)

  • Effectively partners with key stakeholders from marketing and business units to best inform channel strategy across Insurance products

  • Oversees Directors by providing guidance on backlog management and thought partnership on channel strategy and continuous process improvement

  • Builds and manages high-performing teams of Paid and Owned media experts through recruiting, training, coaching, performance management, and related managerial activities

  • Manages relationships with external partners (e.g. agency), ensuring alignment with Insurance marketing objectives

  • Integrates external (e.g., agency) and internal resources into Insurance cross-functional teams

  • Identifies and manages existing and emerging risks that stem from marketing activities and the job role

  • Ensures risks associated with marketing activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled

  • Follows written risk and compliance policies, standards, and procedures for business activities

  • Strengthens data stewardship, actively manage information risk, and participate in division and enterprise data and analytics leadership forums to further information governance and mitigate information and business risks

What you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.

  • 10 or more years of progressive related experience in planning/buying/managing media and social marketing, developing strategies, managing major initiatives and delivering results within a complex matrix environment required.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead USAA's comprehensive paid media plan and practice, including internal team and external media agency oversight.

  • Expert knowledge of traditional and emerging media leveraged across a broad array of marketing initiatives.

  • 6 or more years of people leadership experience in building, managing and/or developing high-performing teams required.

  • Experience collaborating with key resources and stakeholders, influencing decisions and managing work to achieve strategic goals required.

  • Executive-level business acumen in the areas of business operations, industry practices and emerging trends required.

What sets you apart:

  • 2 years of experience working with Machine Learning (ML) and Automated Intelligence (AI) platforms to drive improved performance and automation at scale

  • Strong technical expertise in paid media channel advertising and personalization capability build, familiarity using AdTech and MarTech tools and platforms (e.g., Adobe Suite)

  • Strong knowledge of product offerings across P&C and Life Insurance

  • Strong budget and people management skills to allocate resources across paid media channels effectively

  • In-depth experience using data and metrics to measure impact and resolve improvements to deliver more effective ROI (i.e., to inform test prioritization, determine scalability of results)

  • Marketing process excellence orientation with experience in managing and optimizing compliant marketing channels/campaigns in a highly regulated environment

  • Effective communication skills to distill and express complex insights and recommendations in a clear, succinct and executive-friendly narrative

  • In depth experience operating and leading in an agile, cross-functional team environment

  • Proven leadership skills including the ability to manage potential conflicts and create consensus, transparent and clear communicating style, ongoing talent development, development of strategic capability roadmaps to deliver against future business needs, entrepreneurial spirit

  • Executive-level business acumen in the areas of business planning, operations, industry practices and emerging trends

  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of industry-related risk management and compliance framework and guidelines to include relevant laws, regulatory, compliance, industry regulations and regulatory data sources

  • Comprehensive knowledge of data integrity/privacy practices and applicable risk and compliance management frameworks

What we offer:

Compensation:

USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market position. The salary range for this position is: $163,880.00-294,980.00.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance or at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.

Long Term Incentive Plan: Cash payment for Executive level roles only, representing a cash payment which is both time and performance based.
