Hope Valley Recovery IOP Counselor in Circleville, Ohio

Minimum Qualifications/Credentials

  1. Minimum Bachelor's Degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or related field.
  2. Hold the following license with the State of Ohio in good standing: Licensed Independent Chemical Dependency Counselor (LICDC), Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor III (LCDC-III) Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or Counselor Trainee (CT)
  3. Minimum two years professional experience.
  4. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  5. Basic computer competency, proficiency with Microsoft Office, electronic records.

Basic Functions:

The IOP Counselor will provide counseling services to the patients residing in our treatment program at First Step Recovery of Warren, LLC. Additionally, the Counselor will provide services to the family members of patients admitted to First Step Recovery. The Counselor will be responsible for initial screenings, diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, individual & group therapy, substance abuse and dependence recovery education. The Counselor will maintain appropriate documentation of services in the electronic clinical chart. The Counselor will help link patients to the recovering community and available resources.  The Counselor may conduct aftercare groups for patients completing additional treatment beyond detoxification.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge of addiction, withdrawal, and detoxification processes.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
  3. Ability to establish a therapeutic alliance with patients.
  4. Ability to respond effectively to the urgent needs of patients.
  5. Ability to work cooperatively with other team members / disciplines as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
  6. Ability to conduct educational groups regarding substance abuse / dependence, recovery process and the 12 steps.
  7. Ability to conduct individual and group counseling.

  1. Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  2. Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation of all services in the electronic clinical chart.
  3. Ability to assess patient progress and determine appropriate levels of care.
  4. Ability to facilitate positive discharges and transition patients to the next appropriate level of care.
  5. Understanding of the Standards of Care established by Ohio Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services (OMHAS) and other governing bodies.
  6. Demonstrate knowledge of Community Resources accessible to patients.
  7. Ability to represent Hope Valley Recovery within the community, with other agencies, and with other professionals.
  8. Maintain CPR certification.
  9. Uphold patient rights, confidentiality, and HIPPA regulations.

Non-Essential Duties:

  1. Perform other duties of the position and within the individual's scope of practice as assigned by his / her supervisor.
