Ankura Senior Associate, Valuation and Transaction Advisory in Chicago, Illinois

Practice and Role Overview:

Ankura’s Valuation and Transaction Advisory (VT A ) is a practice within our Disputes & Economics group. We are a leader in supporting companies and their counsel navigate challenging and high stakes legal and regulatory matters, as well as complex tax, transaction, and financial reporting issues. Ankura’s VT A professionals are some of the world’s best and brightest subject matter experts with a strong track record and top-tier leadership position in the industry. Our testifying experts have delivered expert witness testimony on some of the most complex valuation, accounting, solvency, and damages matters in U.S. Tax Court, U.S. Bankruptcy Court, and U.S. District Court, as well as in state courts, arbitrations, mediations, and international settings.

We also perform forensic accounting analyses, work with debtors and creditors in restructuring transactions, perform solvency reports in contentious matters, prepare economic damages assessments, and provide testimony to courts and government regulators.

Role and Responsibilities:

Ankura’s VT A practice is a diverse, tight-knit team of finance and accounting professionals. The individual will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with our senior consulting leaders (and directly with our testifying experts on a regular basis) on engagements across a broad range of industries and subject matters.

This role will be hybrid out of our Chicago or NYC office approximately 2-3 days per week.

Appropriate level for applicant will be determined through the interview process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze historical financial information and cash flow projections

  • Aggregate, synthesize, and evaluate large data sets

  • Develop comprehensive, detailed valuation , damages, and other financial models

  • R econstruct books and records and analyze detailed GL s and trial balances

  • Conduct independent research into industry, market, and other factors relevant to the analysis, as well as research into technical valuation literature

  • Research and analyze accounting and auditing standards, such as under GAAP, GAAS, and IFRS regarding technical accounting issues, including revenue recognition, fair value accounting, business combinations, and deferred tax assets and liabilities, among other issues

  • Provide detailed review and analysis of large volumes of document production

  • Prepare clear, concise, and compelling written material for use in developing expert reports, memos, and client presentations

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year public or private college or university

  • 3-5 years of experience

  • Strong aptitude for financial modeling and financial analysis

  • Excellent collaboration and proactive communication skills: ability to work with client, colleagues, and other stakeholders to define, influence, and drive complex analytical work

  • Dedication to taking personal ownership of work product and consistently meeting internal and external client deadlines and high-performance expectations

  • Strong intellectual curiosity and problem-solving skills with the ability to synthesize complex, unstructured information effectively, and efficiently and develop compelling insights and analysis

  • Proficiency in Microsoft products (particularly Microsoft Word and Excel)

  • Willingness to travel as needed

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

    Preferred:

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) (or progress towards a CPA) and/or Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) or other advanced degree in accounting, finance, or economics , is strongly preferred

  • Professional valuation certification(s) (or progress towards): Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) / Accredited Member (AM) , Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV), Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA)

  • Experience in a litigation environment supporting expert testifiers.

For individuals assigned and/or hired to work in California, Colorado, or New York, Ankura is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This compensation range is specific to the said markets and considers a broad range of factors including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. The range does not include additional benefits outside of salary. At Ankura, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each role. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range is between $65,000 to $155,000; this range is not a promise of a particular wage.
