Summary

The Video Project Designer is responsible for the planning and coordination of video requirements for produced events. Additionally, the Video Project Designer is the local expert on current gear and emerging technology. This position is responsible for educating technical staff, sales staff, show-site staff, and branch management on equipment related issues. This position will interface broadly with other branches and warehouse personnel.

This position will support our Audio Visual and Event Technology team. It is eligible to work a hybrid schedule, generally requiring work in-office 2-3 days per week based out of Chicago, IL.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works closely with clients, sales staff, operations, and project managers to develop video designs and to coordinate pre-production, onsite, and post-production activities in line with event budget.

  • Creates wiring diagrams and video plots for shows based on budgeted designs; ensure on-site personnel have and understand this information.

  • Recommends video personnel during scheduling process to ensure company resources are used effectively and follow company procedures and employee policies.

  • Evaluates the competency of Video Specialists to ensure that Freeman’s quality standards are maintained.

  • Reviews operational procedures within the department and makes recommendations for improvements to enhance operational efficiencies.

  • Oversees equipment logistics and gear use to ensure that company resources are used effectively, including minimizing cross-rentals and efficiently using interbranch gear.

  • Researches and recommends Capital Expenditure Video purchases for the company to keep abreast with current with industry standards and reduce cross rentals to maximize profitability.

  • Develop video training programs to improve staff competency levels.

  • Stays current with new and developing industry trends. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree in related field preferred.

  • Minimum 5 years experience working in live video production with a minimum of 3 years focused on corporate events; or equivalent combination of education, certification, and experience.

  • Ability to engineer instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.

  • Ability to communicate how to install and troubleshoot various related equipment.

  • Advanced understanding of the fundamentals of analog/digital video, formats, aspect resolutions, and connector types.

  • Advanced understanding of video systems and optimization.

  • Experience with Barco Encore/E2 and/or Christie Sypder switching systems.

  • Experience drawing system design in AutoCad or VectorWorks.

  • Experience designing large-scale video systems with full-range video manufacturer equipment.

  • Experience with advanced video networking and media server integration.

  • Experience creating client media templates with Adobe After Effects.

  • Experience with projector pixel mapping.

  • Experience delivering formal training programs to diverse groups preferred.

  • Strong general business acumen.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Registrations Valid state drivers license required.

  • Barco Encore/E2 training certification strongly preferred.

  • Christie Spyder training certification strongly preferred.

  • Panasonic, Apsen, Unilumin, Foregroung and Viss factory training certification preferred.

  • Fiber optic field repair certification preferred.
