About the Department

The Chicago Center of HIV Elimination, embedded within the University of Chicago\'s main campus in Hyde Park, is located in Chicago\'s HIV epicenter. Of the 20 neighborhoods in the city with high annual HIV diagnosis rates (greater than 40 per 100,000), 13 of them are no more than eight miles from the University of Chicago. This area includes 4 of the 6 communities with the highest annual diagnosis rates in the city (Washington Park, West Englewood, Greater Grand Crossing and South Shore). Our position within the hardest hit neighborhoods in Chicago provides unique opportunities to advance HIV testing and prevention interventions locally, providing tangible results to those most affected and to improve the lives of those living with and without HIV infection.

CCHE seeks to eliminate new HIV transmission events over the next 30 years (from 2011 to 2041) by using network science to target and integrate prevention as well as create structural and community-specific interventions.

Job Summary

The Associate Director of Prevention Services oversees all aspects of prevention services for the Center, including HIV/STI testing, outreach and communications, drop-in programs and resource counseling. The individual will be responsible for creating and maintaining staff policies, submitting job requests, and for the onboarding of all new staff. The candidate will support program/research development and implementation. They will manage the communications for the Center, specifically external communication on social media and with community members. They will oversee weekly drop in and outreach programming, identifying best practices for community engagement. They will supervise service staff who are providing client facing services. They will assist with budgeting and will implement all service protocols for the Center.

The candidate will represent the Center on planning bodies, write articles, reports and manuscripts and will present findings at meetings and/or conferences. They will provide technical guidance to employees, colleagues and/or customers. They will adapt departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and business plan; receives guidance from manager.

Responsibilities

  • Management and supervision of prevention staff.
  • Development of policies and procedures.
  • Creation of job descriptions and onboarding of new staff.
  • Searching for, reviewing and submitting grants.
  • Training staff in HIV/STI testing procedures.
  • Creating and implementing staff development processes.
  • External communications oversight.
  • Develops print and electronic materials (e.g., presentations, report, fact sheets).
  • Grant writing to expand funding/resources for service projects.
  • Assisting in management of core programs when needed and communicating with collaborators.
  • Collaborates with faculty, students, and other leaders across campus and within HIV, STI, justice involved populations and substance use to foster multi-disciplinary research and programming within the Center.
  • Working with other staff, the Associate Director of Development represent the Center and its work as appropriate and stays abreast of policy and program developments in sexual and reproductive health.
  • Uses subject matter and best practices knowledge to perform lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Works independently to assist with project design.
  • Solves complex problems relating to the administration of projects, including planning new procedures, adaptin existing procedures to the needs of the project, and making significant contributions to methodology.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
