University of Virginia RN Clinical Ladder - Cardiac Transition Unit in Charlottesville, Virginia

The Cardiac Transition Unit (CTU) is a 15-bed procedural nursing area that provides pre and post care for patients undergoing invasive procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology Labs. CTU RNs and Cardiac Cath Techs work closely with Interventional Physicians and Nurse Practitioners in a collaborative learning environment. Opportunities for growth include working with inpatients and exposure to the pediatric population. Established CTU RNs may also train to provide nursing sedation or anesthesia support during Cardioversions and Transesophageal Echocardiograms.

We offer 10 and 12-hour dayshifts Monday - Friday staffed with 5-6 RN's and 3-5 Cardiac Cath Techs. We also care for up to 8 patients overnight Monday thru Friday night and our unit closes on Saturday morning when the last overnight patient is discharged. There is no call--but you are required to work an abbreviated 4-hour shift one Saturday every 6-week schedule period in order to discharge patients from the unit.

We have dedicated nightshift RNs and Cardiac Cath Techs. We follow the outpatient clinic schedule and are closed on major holidays. You may occasionally work the morning of a holiday in order to discharge our overnight patients and close the unit. Nurses in CTU build inpatient nursing knowledge and skills while enjoying the work-life balance of an outpatient schedule.

We are seeking a capable clinician, focused on expanding knowledge and skills. Consistently provides effective direct care, as part of the interdisciplinary team, to a variety of complex patients. Manages care and implements treatment plans at a refined skill level in collaboration with patients, their families, physicians and other members of the health care team. Seeks as well as provides feedback for improved clinical practice. Assumes a beginning leadership role but seeks mentoring in this process.

Position Compensation Range: $39.90 - $53.00 Hourly

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required. Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.

Experience: 1 year of relevant experience.

Licensure: Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
