Now Interviewing for the 2023-2024 School Year for Charlotte Mecklenburg Food Nutrition Workers

WHO IS CMS?

  • CMS School Nutrition has approximately 170+ elementary, middle, and high schools in Mecklenburg County.

  • They feed approximately 6.8 million breakfasts and 13.2 million lunches per year, as well as providing snacks and supper to many school children in grades Pre-K through 12.

  • School kitchens are staffed by employees who work a 4, 5, or 5.5-hour work day, and receive a free lunch during a 30-minute break.

  • CMS follows the school calendar and has nights, weekends, and holidays off. This is perfect for parents who have children attending school.

  • All part-time employees are hired through Kelly Education. The best part is No experience necessary! CMS will train you on the job.

After you’ve gained some experience and are qualified to be hired, the goal for CMS is to offer you employment as a permanent part-time cafeteria worker.

WHAT WILL YOU BE EXPECTED TO DO?

CMS Nutrition is a team. They will rely on your enthusiasm to learn and desire to be a bright spot in our students’ day:

  1. Prepare menu items when not in service:
  • Read and use recipes to prepare items for breakfast, lunch, and supper.

  • CMS Nutrition works in large quantities, but many of its items are easily assembled, packaged, or re-heated.

  • Complete preparation of items within established time guidelines.

  1. Work in an assigned position during service:
  • Serving students on a serving line

  • Set up food and service items on serving counters and lines

  • Cooking

  • Food preparation

  • Dish room

  • Cashiering (entering student information into a register)

  1. Perform other general duties as assigned:
  • Cleaning work area

  • Putting up stock

  • General cleaning of equipment and kitchen/dining room area

TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION THESE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This job requires lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching; and significant fine finger dexterity.

  • There may be long periods of standing.

  • Work is performed under some temperature extremes, with exposure to moving mechanical parts. Noise level in the work environment can be loud.

  • You will be asked to go in and out of a walk-in cooler or freezer as you prepare food or put up stock.

Minimum requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • 18 years of age or older

  • TB Skin Test

PAY RATE: $13.00/Hour

Job Types: Temporary, Contract, Part-time

Pay: $13.00 per hour

Expected hours: 10 – 40 per week
