Asphalt Quality Control Technician – QC0424.1

Sanders Brothers Construction is currently seeking an enthusiastic Asphalt Quality Control Technician to provide testing and quality control support for their Charleston area asphalt manufacturing operations. Sanders Brothers has provided asphalt related services throughout the Lowcountry for more than 50 years. The quality control technician will be part of a team committed to ensuring materials meet DOT requirements and will have the opportunity for future growth within the company. This may require support after normal business hours based on production and operational needs.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Quality Control Technician will provide detailed analysis to ensure manufactured asphalt meets specifications required by the Department of Transportation, customers or job requirements.

  • Perform daily QC testing on Hot Mix Asphalt as required by governing agencies and at the discretion of the QC Manager.

  • Performs data collection and reporting.

  • Assisting in mix design development and changes in plant production.

  • Performs stockpile analysis on incoming aggregates and RAP stockpiles as needed.

  • Work in varying weather conditions and work environments including dusty, wet, loud noises, etc.

  • Keep work site areas and company vehicle clean and orderly, informing management of any safety concerns or vehicle or site problems.

  • Comply with all SBCC policies, procedures and safety requirements.

  • Perform any other general duties as specified.

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • 0-3 years of experience working in an asphalt quality control environment providing required analysis to ensure product meets required specification.

  • Training may be available for the right candidate.

  • Exceptional math skills.

  • Must be willing to work safely and follow all safety rules and regulations and enforce such rules with the asphalt crews.

  • Flexible availability to include overtime, weekends and nights.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record by complying with standards established by SBCC policy.

  • Will be required to long periods of time standing, walking, bending, squatting and lifting.

  • Will use arms and hands to signal, grab, hold, turn, push, and pull: objects, materials, controls and tools.

  • May be required to lift, carry and move up to 50lbs.

  • Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and leather work boots.

  • Must meet SBCC's employment standards with regards to drug and background checks.

  • Must have the ability to stand, crawl and kneel for long periods of time

  • Work environments will vary making it necessary to tolerate weather conditions, such as rain and extreme temperatures. Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, varying temperatures, loud noises, etc…

    Preferred Skills

  • South Carolina Department of Transportation Asphalt Level I certification and/or roadway certification.
