UNC Health Care Aftercare Program Coordinator - Burn Center in Chapel Hill, North Carolina

The North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center is dedicated to providing the crucial combination of specialized medical care and rehabilitative services required by patients recovering from burn injuries. This position will offer Monday-Friday standard business hours and provides flexibility within those hours. This role will also require occasional weekends based upon events that are held for supporting programs.

Summary:

Facilitates the supervision, management and delivery of routines, schedules and procedures for children's camps, school re-entry, and support operations. Plans, implements and evaluates camp programming, orientation and the camp experience for campers, volunteers and staff. Plans, creates and conducts individualized and generalized after care programs/therapeutic interventions for child patients, siblings, and caregivers. Presents and publishes articles related to camp experience and after care interventions.

Responsibilities:

  1. Directs program attendee recruitment and communication with multidisciplinary team members, hospital personnel, and community groups relative to supportive care program activities in compliance with UNCHCS and department policies and procedures. Provides appropriate risk management and infection control to improve the health, safety and benefit of patients using the facilities.

  2. Facilitates data entry and management for all supportive programming related tasks. Facilitates internal and external communications for planning. Coordinates activities with multidisciplinary team members, legal office, public affairs, volunteers, media, vendors, local facility staff, etc. Under the supervision of department leadership, provides communication regarding programs, events and materials with engaged donor groups.

  3. Facilitates the supervision, management, and delivery of routines, schedules and procedures for support group operations. Assists in the supervision of all operations and program staff. Maintains and develops policy and procedure manuals for supportive care programming.

  4. Facilitates volunteer recruitment, public relations and community outreach related to supportive care programming. Serves as hospital liaison to volunteers, members of Carolina PALS, and coordinates scheduling and placement of members as appropriate to meet programming needs. Educates and ensures volunteer accountability in all volunteer roles across programs. Develops descriptions of therapeutic activities/program and designs promotional materials. Actively promotes events and activities to encourage participation.

  5. Plans, creates and conducts individualized and generalized supportive care programs/ therapeutic interventions for pediatric patients and families, taking into account specific patient needs and interests, resources needed and appropriate health, safety, infection control and risk management procedures to assure patient safety and therapeutic/rehabilitative benefit. These may include School Re-entry, teen programming, preschool programming and individualized interventions designed to enhance the patients abilities to function in life activities while dealing with their diagnosis/treatment.

  6. Plans, implements and evaluates programming, orientation, and therapeutic experience for patients, family members, volunteers and staff. Facilitates program development, group planning meetings, delegation and organization of task completion. Requests resources needed for therapeutic activities. Ensures adequate materials and supplies are available.

  7. Presents and publishes articles related to supportive program experiences and interventions. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance activities in accordance with JCAHO standards and with hospital and department policies. Participates in the design and implementation of research projects.

Education Requirements:

● Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Child Life Nursing, Social Work, or Chaplaincy.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

● If a Bachelor's degree in Child Life: Certification by the Child Life Certifying Commission.

● If a Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation: Licensed as a Recreational Therapist by the North Carolina Board of Recreational Therapy Licensure (NCBRTL).

● If a Bachelor's degree in Therapeutic Recreation: Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).

● If Nursing degree, requires valid NC Nursing License.

Professional Experience Requirements:

● Requires 2 years of experience.
