Your Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Project Controls Coordinator to join our Mining team. This will be a diversified project management position within Stantec that requires a detail-oriented individual. In this role you will be able to apply technical skills in cost controls, schedule management, communication and problem solving in a fast paced, professional, design and construction environment under the guidance of lead program controls staff.

  • Implement established project control processes and procedures for project execution, including, but not limited to, earned value management, and change management.

  • Ensure cost and schedule alignment.

  • Responsible for supporting Program teams in developing, managing, updating, and monitoring the program schedule as well as individual project schedules.

  • Developing progress reports and maintaining integrated key performance metrics (KPIs).

  • Supporting, documenting, and tracking change management processes for potential adjustments to scope, schedule, or budget.

  • Interfacing with program and project management, stakeholders, client, contractors, and other consultants on all project controls related activities.

  • Ensure project control processes are in place to analyze project performance including change control, project updating, and reporting.

  • Document and communicate variance and trend analyses according to the change control process.

  • Facilitate change control meetings as well as project controls meetings.

  • Provide mentoring and training to Junior Project Controller as needed

  • Participate in internal project controls audits.

  • Contribute to the development and upkeep of internal processes and procedures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the project controls department.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Detail-oriented and organized, with exceptional prioritization skills on a consistent basis.

  • Strong desire to organize and plan, time management, and coordinate project deliverables.

  • Self-starter and motivated working under minimal supervision.

  • Collaborate with clients, if required, to clarify cost and schedule related issues while ensuring adherence to recommended best practices.

  • Support the development of Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) with project team and key business development leaders.

  • Understand and navigate critical path.

  • Understand schedule slippages and help propose mitigation strategies if required.

  • Understand resource management.

  • Monitor and control by measuring against schedule baseline and control budget through progressing and forecasting.

  • Understand Cost and Schedule variances and trends.

  • Versatility, flexibility, and willingness to work within frequently changing priorities.

  • Ability to perform in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

  • Understanding of project controls concepts and ability to effectively communicate ideas to others.

  • Recognizes when technical problems are developing and initiates appropriate corrective actions.

  • Ability to concurrently manage multiple assignments and quickly adapt to new priorities.

  • Ability to travel as required for project assignments.

  • Valid driver’s license is required.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is preferred in Engineering, Business or related field.

  • 8 years of experience in performing cost management and other project controls functions.

  • Knowledge in project control fundamentals with analytical skills and understanding in financial analysis, schedule analysis, modeling, and budgeting methodologies.

  • Advanced MS Office skills, proficient in Excel, and Microsoft Project.

  • Experience with Power BI and other data tools is desired.

  • Proficient in Primavera (P6) software including ability to review and manage cost-loaded and resource-loaded schedules.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is highly desired.
