Amentum Field Support Supervisor - BFC in Centennial, Colorado

Position Responsibilities:

• Uses the SIP process to determine field equipment needs for grantees and other support personnel working in remote locations, then allocates resources for each group.

• Recruits, trains and supervises summer and winter-over staff.

• Ensures that field equipment is in good working order for use in extreme and remote locations. Works with the Field Training Supervisor and the Field Technical Manager to make sure that we have the most appropriate field gear available for our customers.

• Provides instruction in the use of field equipment and provides personnel in support of field researchers as required.

• Provides training to staff to ensure they provide appropriate information to their customers regarding field equipment use, and living and working in remote field locations.

• Conducts a yearly cycle count inventory to complete yearly resupply via the vessel.

• Researches, tests and evaluates new field equipment. Purchases stock inventory and new equipment.

• Oversees provision of Outdoor Recreation Safety Lectures to the McMurdo community.

• Maintains the McMurdo ECW resupply clothing inventory and issue.

• Responsible for the general daily maintenance of work center vehicle resources.

• Responsible for the daily check of the Food Staging Milvan.

• Supervises the food room operations. Is responsible for coordinating an annual food room inventory and completes an annual food room order.

• Responsible for updating the procedures and operations to reflect current science supportability focusing on efficiency.

• In absence of the Field Technical Manager and/or the Deputy Field Area Manager, actively participates in the McMurdo Station Emergency Management team and is an active member of the Emergency Operations Center core team which is on-call 24/7 for all initial responses to potential incidents, and to

help develop and implement the Incident Action Plan.

• Interacts directly with National Science Foundation, ASC Station Management, US military and other contract agency and Antarctic national program officials in a professional and tactful manner.

• Provides detailed analysis and input to the ASC Planning Team and the NSF Activity Based Managers for supportability of science proposals, taking into account currently funded groups, and inventory loss.

• During the planning season, participates in NSF and grantee planning meetings to determine field season requirements. Allocates and coordinates issuing of equipment to NSF-sponsored groups. During the Antarctic summer season, participates in NSF and grantee implementation meetings and is responsible for communicating support issues.

• Handles confidential issues in accordance with management policy.

• Communicates professionally with their subordinates as needed to relay information they need in order to be successful in their jobs. This includes, but is not limited to, staff meetings, performance appraisals, job requirements, division metrics, projects, Quality Standard Procedures, and safety practices.

• Responsible for implementing and maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.

• Performs other duties as required.

Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:

• Minimum two (2) years’ experience in outfitting groups in cold weather camping gear and/or high-altitude environments.

• A Bachelor’s Degree. An additional four (4) years’ of relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.

• An additional two (2) years of supervisory experience, ideally in same or similar industry and/or environment.

• Wilderness First Responder Certification.

Preferred:

• Professional experience outfitting groups living and working in cold weather environments.

• Experience of managing extensive and complex inventory.

• Budget management experience.

• Highly organized in all aspects of work. Must be detail driven.

• Strong supervisory background including building balanced and happy teams that thrive at work.

• Basic knowledge of mountaineering and/or polar skills

• Familiarity with Excel and Access software, and good all-round proficiency with day-to-day computer tasks.

Physical and/or Other Requirements:

• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.

• Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica.

• Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer.

• Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF.

• Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.

• Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.

• Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.

• Valid Driver’s License issued in the United States.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
