Robert Half Senior Grants Financial Officer in Cambridge, Massachusetts

Description

Our client, a renowned research institute, is seeking a Senior Financial Officer to spearhead and manage both pre- and post-award financial activities. This position will play a critical role in the provision of strategic guidance to the Finance Office, along with training, and leading a team of financial professionals to assure optimal department contributions.

The selected candidate will work hand-in-hand with the Director of Administration and Finance on establishing a sustainable financial infrastructure. This includes providing direction to the team to ensure it meets the institutional policies and governmental regulations while committing to the needs of Principal Investigators (PIs) and the support staff.

The Senior Financial Officer will develop and provide monthly financial reports, forecasts, summaries, analyses, as well as assessment of resource needs. Additionally, the role involves high-level financial duties, such as budgeting, financial planning, and analysis with a keen focus on compliance with the institution's award terms and conditions.

This position offers a rare opportunity to develop and maintain relationships with various departments at multiple institutions facilitating financial processes for initiatives both current and new. The SFO will play an instrumental role in the creation and enhancement of infrastructure and controls to ensure institutional policy compliance.

Responsibilities:

• Guiding development of financial planning and strategies.

• Implementing financial policies, procedures, and improvement of processes.

• Managing sponsored research portfolio – from proposal submission to close-out.

• Maintaining stakeholder relationships both internal and external to the institution.

• Preparing and reviewing complex financial proposals and administering gifts and awards.

• Overseeing cost-sharing, under-recovery, overruns, etc.

• Handling forecasting and reviewing of monthly financial activity.

• Managing expense reconciliation of all financial activities.

• Supervising and mentoring financial staff members.

• Preparing complex financial reports and summaries.

Requirements

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred) with a minimum of 5 years of experience in research administration, accounting, or finance.

• Must be able to work in a complex environment, handle multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.

• Excellent communication skills, analytical ability, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills. • Experience with SAP, Kuali Coeus, Cognos, Brio, and Excel.

• Ability to adapt to changing technologies related to grants and contract management.

• Knowledge of federal guidelines and pre- and post-award financial activities.

• Experience in managing and leading others is an advantage.
