What You Will Achieve

As Hematology Laboratory Head and Group Leader within our Internal Medicine Research Unit (IMRU), you will contribute to the development of therapies for chronic anemias and related blood disorders. You will be an independent scientific leader tasked with building and testing innovative therapeutic hypotheses that lead to innovative drug discovery programs. You will build and manage a team of laboratory scientists ranging from BS to PhD with postdoctoral experience. You will connect expertise across our Research Units as well as with leading academic institutions. You will partner with multiple disciplines of integrated drug discovery and development to deliver differentiated preclinical candidates and novel therapeutics.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Contribute to the development of a red cell health strategy in IMRU by identifying and prioritizing novel targets or pathways to treat key unmet medical needs.

  • Manage a group of 6 scientists to support discovery research projects in the areas of hematology and red cell health.

  • Collaborate with key internal and external hematology scientists to drive improved understanding of disease pathophysiology at the level of molecular pathways.

  • Maintain an expert view of innovative technologies that support hematology research; make recommendations on whether to internalize new capabilities or access through collaborative relationships.

  • Inspire, model, and reinforce colleague expectations to urgently create value with an appropriate return on investment, apply innovative, rigorous science to discovering new medicines, accept individual and collective accountability for value creation, and continuously improve organizational effectiveness.

  • Attract and grow highly effective scientists and drug discoverers. Coach and mentor others; motivate others to maintain a consistent level of excellence.

  • Maintain a culture that translates breaking biological science into new medicines more effectively than the competition.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Biology or related field

  • Postdoctoral experience in the field of hematology

  • Deep working knowledge of hematology biology

  • Minimum 8 years experience as an independent investigator

  • Strong track record of publications demonstrating scientific recognition, deep biological expertise and record of innovative research in hematology

  • Expert knowledge of hematology research methods and preclinical models

  • Experience managing and supporting the career development of a team of scientists

  • Experience influencing complex, multidisciplinary teams in a matrix environment where resources are not always in direct control to advance basic science or deliver clinical candidates

Relocation support available

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $149,200.00 to $248,600.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
