    Job Description

GRANTS FINANCIAL OFFICER, Institute for Medical Engineering and Science (IMES) (https://imes.mit.edu/about) , to perform complex pre- and post-award sponsored research administration. Will advise and educate principal investigators (PIs), faculty, researchers, and staff on all aspects of research administration, including MIT policies and systems and federal regulations; and provide advice on matters pertaining to financial management of an assigned portfolio, including managing sponsored, non-sponsored, and general accounts according to the terms and conditions of the sponsor and MIT. Responsibilities include utilizing the COEUS award management module for proposal preparation and processing; performing initial award set-up; monitoring the financial performance of grants/contracts to ensure compliance; meeting regularly with PIs to advise on all aspects of research administration; preparing financial analyses and forecasting; preparing and submitting forms and financial reports; monitoring and managing effort distribution and certification; analyzing and tracking cost-sharing and under-recovery; ensuring timely and appropriate account close-outs; and collaborating on analyzing and implementing processes/improvements to financial operations. Job Requirements

REQUIRED : bachelor’s degree; five years’ experience in accounting or related financial area; excellent communication, analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills; meticulous attention to detail and accuracy; self-motivation; proficiency with SAP, Cognos, Brio, and Excel (or similar); and ability to learn changing grant- and contract management-related technology. PREFERRED : knowledge of federal guidelines; ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, meet deadlines, work independently and collaboratively in a complex environment, set goals/objectives, and present solutions to complex problems; knowledge of pre- and post-award financial activities; financial administration experience in a university/hospital/nonprofit; experience with COEUS or other grants management system; knowledge of Uniform Guidance, NIH, and other federal sponsor policies; and experience with MIT’s finance and research administration policies.
