Description

Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3) provides a key-value interface to an infinitely scalable and durable object storage system. We build and run the largest commercial object storage system in the world with trillions of objects and regularly serving millions of requests per second.

The S3 Compute team builds features for S3 that make application solutions with S3 fast and inexpensive and integrate our customers applications with other AWS services. Our features, services, and libraries are used by hundreds of thousands of customers supporting a variety of diverse use cases including event-driven architectures, transformation of data on the fly, data lake analytics, and security compliance. As a highly available Amazon service, our solutions have to be easy to use, scalable, efficient, and extremely fault tolerant.

Key job responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Work with product managers and development managers to design and build new features and improve existing features

  • Lead and mentor talented software engineers

  • Participate in a development/operations service model to truly own the team’s software

  • Utilize quality software engineering techniques like formal verification methods and resiliency threat assessments to build world-class quality software

  • Directly influence business success with performance and cost optimization engineering

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

  • Experience in professional, non-internship software development

  • Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

  • Experience in development in the last 3 years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

  • Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
