Position Overview:

The DevOps team provides operational and technical support for the nShield product development group. Providing and maintaining the infrastructure and tools used by the engineering teams. We work closely with the engineering teams to understand their day-to-day needs, implementing tools, services and platforms using open source and commercial applications. Whilst most activity is on premise, there is some cloud product development to support. The role requires an open mind to exploring, implementing and maintaining solutions using a variety of applications and tools. Adapting to the day-to-day requirements and the latest technology.

Core activities include:

  • Administration and maintenance of the nShield Engineering product development infrastructure, services, and tools.

  • Developing and implementing self-service access to resources and infrastructure.

  • Providing Operational and DevOps perspectives for the development and improvement of the Continuous Integration (CI) systems and Engineering processes; supporting a complex, cross-platform codebase and multiple products.

  • Maintain close working relationships between IT, Information Security departments and nShield Engineering.

  • Execution of the DevOps team backlog.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Desired

  • Degree in Computer Science or related Engineering degree.

  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience performing Infrastructure administration and maintenance orientated tasks.

  • Working with software and hardware engineers in support of the product development and delivery.

Knowledge:

Essential

  • Knowledge and experience of operating system administration and maintenance, including Linux (Ubuntu, Red Hat, SUSE), Windows, and Mac OS.

  • Experience supporting virtual machines (vSphere) and physical servers (including Dell and HP) through their life cycle; deployment, maintenance, and decommissioning.

  • Knowledge of observability, infrastructure and process monitoring, instrumentation, and analysis. With experience of available tools, e.g. Zabbix, ELK.

  • Experience with the automated provisioning and configuration of infrastructure, tools, services and build and test hardware environments, e.g. Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), Configuration-as-Code (CaC). Including tools such as Packer, Terraform and Ansible.

  • Working knowledge of containerization technologies, including Docker, Kubernetes and Rancher, and experience in the creating and deploying these systems and resources.

  • Working knowledge of Information Security principles and practices. How to apply them to infrastructure and service operations. This could include server hardening, firewall configuration, least privilege, Roll Based Access Control (RBAC).

  • Good understanding of Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) practices. Build, test and release pipelines, system design and infrastructure. This includes tools such as Bamboo, Jenkins and Gitlab.

  • Good knowledge of DevOps practices and principals.

  • Working knowledge of Agile principles and frameworks such as Scrum, Kanban or SAFe.

Desired

  • Experience of server room or data centre operations, including power, cooling and Data Centre Infrastructure Management (DCIM).

  • Experience of database configuration and administration, e.g. PostgreSQL or MS SQL Server.

  • Experience with software development. How to leverage development principles for infrastructure administration, automated testing, and deployment.

  • Experience of infrastructure design, architecture, configuration, and maintenance; including networking and storage.

  • Knowledge of data protection and business continuity practises, backup, and recovery.

Job Complexity:

Essential

  • Able to work as part of a team, developing feature work from inception through the implementation and deployment phases with the support of Senior and Principal Engineers.

  • Working with product development engineers to ensure that their and the product needs are not impacted.
