Your Opportunity

Stantec is currently looking for a Senior Cost Controller to be part of our team on a permanent full-time position. Reporting to the project controls manager, the Senior Cost Controller will provide the project controls manager and project managers with viable information for effective management and cost control of the various projects and will be accountable for implementing robust processes, checks and balances to determine Budget, Actual Cost, Gross Margin, and Estimate at Completion (EACs) of projects. The Cost Controller must be a champion of Project Controls and Project Management practices, contributing to the skill development of team members and building capacity for successful project execution.

Your Key Responsibilities

To perform this role successfully, the candidate will be responsible for but not limited to the following:

  • Plan and implement project costs and schedule control resources, processes, tools, and systems on the assigned projects.

  • Provide support to the Project Management team to plan the complete project delivery sequence, budgets, and schedule.

  • Develop schedules, work breakdown structures and cost breakdown structures.

  • Perform ongoing analysis of project performance data including but not limited to Earned Value Reporting, Change management, Risk, cost variance reports.

  • Prepare Project Monthly Reports, Progress Reports and Ad-hoc reports as required.

  • Perform quality reviews on project reports prepared by other members of the Project Controls team.

  • Apply company guidelines and procedures in the areas of project cost, performance, forecasting, and schedule controls on the assigned projects.

  • Transfer learning from actual project implementation into the improvement of company guidelines and procedures.

  • Complete administrative duties appropriate and necessary for the smooth implementation of the job role within the assigned project.

  • Ensure regular communication with project team and other stakeholders regarding program Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), current budget, actual cost and forecast to complete. Monitor, analyze and discuss discrepancies and propose corrective measures.

  • Provide the technical support to required team members to ensure the project cost control systems and processes are maintained to Stantec standards.

  • Maintain project staffing plans and update utilization curves.

  • Creates and maintains a culture and environment that is open and respectful

  • Support with hiring, supervision, coaching, development, and mentor project controls personnel (ie Project Controls Specialist, Lead, Cost Controller, Planner / Scheduler)

  • Communicates with Senior Leadership to ensure adequate resources are provided

  • Other related duties assigned.

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • In-depth knowledge of project finance and Earned Value Management obtained through experience and education.

  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams), SharePoint and Power BI

  • Must be self-sufficient, self-motivated and the ability to multitask

  • Experience in using cost system and scheduling software (e.g. Oracle, PRISM. Primavera)

  • Experience in the operation and analysis of databases, software, as well as data retrieval methodologies.

  • Natural leader and team builder who can build strong relationships quickly

  • Strong analytical skills to review cost control information and ensure accuracy as well as identify issues, concerns, and potential mitigations.

  • Excellent time management skills detailed oriented and resourceful. Must be able to successfully work both collaboratively and independently.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with aptitude in building relationships and credibility with professionals at any level in the organization.

Education and Experience

  • University degree/diploma in engineering, finance, accounting, project management or combination of relevant experience and education.

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mining or energy Project Cost Control.

  • Proven experience and ability in planning, scheduling, financial analysis, budgeting, forecasting, estimating and cost control

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or AACE Certification is highly desired.

  • Construction / Field Experience is considered an asset.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay transparency laws require employers to provide the following information for positions that may be in the following jurisdiction(s):

Salary Range(s):

  • Lower Mainland $76,100 - Lower Mainland $110,300 Min/Max Pay Range for postings located in BC (Lower Mainland includes Vancouver & Burnaby)

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible.
