POSITION OVERVIEW:

Startec Compression & Process is currently recruiting a QA/QC Manager to work at our Shepard Office (9423 Shepard Road SE, Calgary, AB T2C 4R6) in Calgary, AB.  Reporting to the Production Manager, the QA/QC Manager will be an integral member of the Quality Assurance and Quality Control team for the compression and processing division. They will support the division team through the timely completion of QC activities as required to ensure the success of all the projects to which they are assigned.  This position is responsible for implementing procedures and enforcing practices as defined by ABSA, CWB, OH&S legislation, C.S.A., customer specifications, Startec quality control programs, and safety manuals .

 

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPI):

QUALITY CONTROL AND ASSURANCE  (Weighting 60%) Specifications and Cost Estimates

  • Attend Internal & External Shop Audits

  • Maintain QMS Certificates.

  • Establish and maintain project quality control job files.

  • Develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.

    Compliance

  • Review of Customer Specifications and assistance with cost estimates.

  • Plans and oversees the analysis, inspection, design, test, and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned products or components. Assign and verify compliance with company weld procedures.

  • Creation of regulatory data sheets (AB-83, etc.).

  • Maintain current redline drawings. Maintain records of non-conformances, and corrective & preventive actions; communicate information to all relevant parties and ensure timely closeout of the agreed actions.

    CUSTOMER ENGAGEMENT (Weighting 20%) Customer Support

  • Support the Site Supervisors, Project Managers, Foreman, Trades personnel, and other project personnel by educating and engaging them in all aspects of Startec’s Quality Management System.

  • Provide troubleshooting expertise to manage any quality-related issues that arise.

  • Provide QA/QC stewardship and be a resource to instill a value within all personnel of the virtues and benefits of maintaining and managing a proactive Quality Management System.

    Customer Quality Assurance

  • Work closely with customers to identify areas for improvement in quality processes, products, or services, and collaborate on implementing corrective actions and process enhancements.

  • Negotiate and establish quality assurance agreements with customers, outlining quality standards, testing protocols, and performance metrics.

  • Supervision and overseeing of the QA/QC department and deliverables.

    QUALITY MANAGEMENT AND REPORTING (Weighting 20%) Project Management

  • Index creation, progressive maintenance, and timely submission of project turnover documentation as per client requirements.

  • Development of new Weld Procedures as required.

  • Reporting as required.

    Team Management

  • Management of 4-6 Quality Inspectors.

  • Performance evaluations and disciplinary actions as required.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Diploma in Engineering Design & Drafting Technology (EDDT) or a related field.

  • Level 2 Welding inspector Certificate required.

  • Welding Engineering Technology program completion is an asset.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a QC Supervisor or Manager in the design, fabrication, and inspection of industrial pressure piping.

  • Previous experience in oil & gas manufacturing.

  • Lean & ISO experience is an asset.

  • Working knowledge and understanding of ASME Codes Sections, I, II, V, IX, B31.3, regulatory requirements (ABSA, CWB, AER, NEB), etc., 

  • Able to work with and interpret orthographic, isometric, and P&ID drawings,

  • Proficient with Microsoft suite of products including Word and Excel.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills,

  • Ability to work under pressure and handle sensitive/critical issues effectively,

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills,

  • Ability to work in a team environment.
