About the role

The Senior Marine Underwriter will contribute to profitable growth and overall business results of the AIG Belgium Marine portfolio, within the France/Belgium/Luxembourg cluster. The role will be based in Brussels.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite new and renewal accounts (in lead and follow capacity) within authority,

  • Determine the desirability of accepting or rejecting business in line with strategy, appetite and guidelines,

  • Carry out technical risk analysis,

  • Price exposures in accordance with pricing tools and guidelines,

  • Formulate appropriate contractual conditions and perform critical wording reviews,

  • Assess international risks and design/deploy multinational programmes as applicable,

  • Evaluate capacity aggregations including NatCat accumulations, taking into consideration catastrophe modelling data and analysis,

  • Proactively monitor business profitability and anticipate/execute effective policy renewal negotiations,

  • Collaborate with other departments (Claims, Distribution, Risk control, Operations, etc.) to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction while meeting business goals as well as governance and underwriting control objectives,

  • Cultivate strong relationships with brokers, clients and other key external stakeholders,

  • Identify opportunities for business development/marketing initiatives and contribute to the promotion of AIG.

Key Capabilities:

  • Technical experience and data-driven analytical ability,

  • Broker/client relationship management,

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills,

  • Problem-solving, negotiation and decision-making aptitude,

  • Robust understanding of policy administration lifecycle and data/records management,

  • Regulatory and compliance awareness,

  • Collaborative team player mentality,

  • Proven ability to perform/thrive in a face-paced international environment.

Qualifications / Experience:

  • University degree and ideally professional certification,

  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in Marine insurance underwriting, broking or claims handling, with demonstrated competence ideally across cargo, logistics and commodities business,

  • Proficient English, Dutch & French language skills. Any additional European language would be an asset.
