Our Cell Engineering Team is responsible for giving life to the batteries that power solutions changing the lives of our users. The team oversees the design, validation and scale up of these design concepts. We introduce them to our production facility and ensure we have best-in-class and stable supply chain to deliver products. We continue to invest in cell engineering resources to design and develop a leadership position in cell technology; something unique within the industry.

The Program Manager will contribute individually and work with the team to design, recruit for and build the design center. We will create working prototypes on our advanced concepts bringing it one step closer to production.

You will collaborate with Cell Design Engineering, Cell Technology and Process Engineering to layout and setup a Design Center of Excellence. You will lead a team of passionate mechanical engineers, process engineers, manufacturing engineers and materials engineers to bring state-of-the-art concepts to working prototype level used in Milwaukee’s products. Transfer of design to cell operations will also be part of the responsibility of the role.

You’ll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:

  • In this role you will drive the daily activities to meet overall program objectives focusing on site selection, equipment selection, recruiting and setting up the design center

  • Oversee site readiness, handle vendor relationships and final purchase, debug and operation of the equipment. Setup and execute on overall project schedule including hiring key team members

  • Lead and participate in equipment buyoff and training activities

  • Champion development and introduction of new product innovation

  • Manage pilot production and reporting KPIs

  • Work closely across departments and business units in establishing processes, defining ownership and executing on chosen directions

  • Prove success of concept to test prototype quicky with the ability to move to the next phase. Employ and adopt the “fail fast” mentality

  • Identify multi-functional design dependencies and risks - Clearly define and document design trade-offs, and independently drive the appropriate strategic solutions in process, equipment or design

  • Develop and drive project schedules including management of suppliers to integrate their work into the project timeline.

  • Manage productization of new technologies and lead communication and collaboration across Design, Operations and Quality Teams

  • Mentor and coach the technical leads in engineering best practices including task management, Gantt charts, root cause analysis.

  • Build, manage, and motivate a world class team of cross functional engineers and project managers in engineering best practices to deliver new-to-world solutions.

  • Effectively communicate and motivate up, down, and across the organization to a diverse range of technical and non-technical team members.

  • Develop and apply manufacturing mindset to designs to effectively and efficiently tranfer design to scale up

What TOOLS you’ll bring with you:

  • Technical background (BS or MS) in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.

  • Must have prior experience with Design specs for equipment, layout for lab facilities and working with cross-functional teams to deliver project on time

  • 10+ years of experience in driving prototyping concepts and/or designing prototyping/small scale production facilities

  • Excellent leadership, data presentation, communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to think strategically and broadly to comprehend, communicate and drive complex project trade-off discussions.

  • Strong communication skills in influencing and communicating both to executives and project team members

  • Remain flexible and calm in the face of ambiguity, and rapid development cycles.

  • Expected to travel up to 50% of the time both domestically and internationally

Other TOOLS we prefer you to have:

  • Designing and manufacturing experience

  • Operations knowledge preferred

  • Proficiency in a range of analytical techniques used in electrochemical analysis and equipment used in cell prototyping.

  • Working knowledge of battery, motors and power tools.
