The Business Office at Hostos Community College provides support and assistance in the areas of accounting, accounts receivable/payable, TAP certification, Research Foundation post-award accounting, college revenue, maintaining investment and scholarship funds and budgeting. The Office seeks to render timely, effective, efficient, and customer friendly service to all faculty, staff, students, and administrators, as well as customers both within and outside the University community. We strive to maintain and enforce strong professional and ethical standards, while adhering to CUNY policies and procedures.

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of Business and Finance, the Finance Specialist will perform the following in addition to the Overview duties:

  • Verify, record, and post financial transactions such as funds received and disbursed.

  • Process checks for Hostos Foundation and Continuing Education accounts; prepare financial statements and reconcile account balances.

  • Develop weekly, monthly, quarterly, yearly, and ad hoc operational reports for the Division of Continuing Education & Workforce Development and Hostos Foundation.

  • Prepare Form 1099-Miscellaneous for payments made to individuals, partnerships, companies and foundations.

  • Work with external auditors during annual reviews and audits and other department officials to verify students eligibility for grants and scholarships prior to processing checks.

  • Record and update financial information in CUNYfirst.

  • Assist in the implementation of new computer software application to meet department needs.

  • Supervise and train staff as required.

  • Play a major role in the year end closing process to include coordination with Purchasing and Accounts Payable.

  • Prepare and submit teh annual NYC Impress Accountability Report

  • Preview submitted Non-Tax Levy Travel and Expense reimbursements for faculty/staff and confirsm travel complies with NTS Travel Regulations

  • Examine invoices, claims, vouchers, statements, bils, etc. for accuracy by reviewing supporting data and records

  • Essential duties require on-campus presence.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required.

The following qualificatons are preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field

  • At least two years in higher education setting

  • Availability to work weekend and evening hours when required

  • Maintains financial accounts for income and spending; administers the allocation of funds

  • Analyzes spending, income trends and usage to recommend improvements

  • Manages the collection of revenue and accounts receivable

  • Tracks and maintains financial data to provide fiscal reports to management; produces forecasting projections

  • Monitors the financial condition of operating centers to ensure efficient use of resources

  • Performs ad hoc reporting and analysis as necessary

  • May supervise subordinate staff

  • Performs related duties as assigned.
