The Community Outreach Team in Red Hat's Open Source Program Office (OSPO) is seeking a Web Developer to support our upstream projects with web site and web application development work.

All of our upstream communities rely on their web presences to communicate about themselves, and to organize community contribution and collaboration. Many of our existing project web sites are in need of an overhaul, and an upgrade of their underlying platform, to make them more usable, maintainable, and secure. There is a need to create new websites for projects as they begin to build their communities as well.

Today, Red Hat’s OSPO supports a number of communities (https://www.redhat.com/en/about/our-community-contributions) that Red Hat relies upon for productization, and many more communities approach OSPO for help deploying new or updated web sites or extending functionality on existing sites.

What You Will Do :

  • Meet regularly with community stakeholders and managers to review open source community and functional requirements and to determine project scopes and specifications

  • Develop and maintain processes for static web site creation and participate in tactical and strategic development projects

  • Make small design-focused edits requested by customers, develop plans for completing larger projects, and suggest solutions to improve existing websites

  • Perform UI design and coding and create reusable objects and wireframes for web pages and email templates

  • Conduct file backups regularly to local directories

What You Will Bring:

  • Dedication to innovative, sophisticated designs, and collaborative problem-solving

  • Experience in planning and developing websites across multiple products and organizations

  • Extensive knowledge of web applications, programming languages, and web services — including API, CSS, CSS3, cross-browser compatibility, HTML, HTML5, JavaScript, Jekyll, jQuery, PHP, Ruby, REST, SOAP, and web user interface design

  • Experience with Linux and Mac environments

Nice To Have:

  • Proficiency with content management systems, including WordPress and Drupal

  • Familiarity with open source principles & development processes
