ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Assists with planning, implementation, and maintenance of sensory programs.
• Setting up ingredient and food sample cuttings and assisting in evaluation, including setting up and administering sensory evaluations. Wash lab utensils and glassware/dishes.
• Accurately enters sensory data into Microsoft Excel.
• Interact effectively with the sensory team in the planning of resources.
• Conduct tests and experiments using various lab equipment, such as but not limited to scales, pH meter, water activity meter, Titrations, Brix refractometers, and Bostwick consistometer.
• Complete chemical, physical, and sensorial analysis of samples.
• Maintenance and organization of laboratory ingredients, materials, equipment, sample inventory, and database system; coordination of equipment maintenance and waste disposal.
• Fulfilling supplier sample requests to make samples for customers, preparing sample shipments to the client, and performing other related tasks as assigned.
• Collect data and report using Microsoft Programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
• Maintain a clean working area and assist with sanitation and maintenance of RandD laboratory and storage areas.
• May occasionally assist with QA/QC tasks, as determined by department needs.
• Perform other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience:6 months - 2 years of laboratory, QA/QC, RandD experience in a food manufacturing setting.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Basic math skills are required, including working accurately with formulas, conversions, decimals, and percentages.

• Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Must demonstrate independent and critical thinking ability, hands-on mentality/qualities.
• Must be comfortable working with computers and have knowledge of MS office.
• Must be able to work extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Valid drivers license and ability to drop off samples as needed.
• Bilingual skills a plus.

RELATIONSHIPS:

• This position reports directly to the Food Scientist.
• The RandD Assistant works closely to other team members.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

RandD Assistant must be able to lift 30-40 lbs. with or without assistance.

The working environment is a clean, climate-controlled, state-of-the-art manufacturing facility, but may require some outside maintenance as needed. Must be able to pass a drug screen as well as a criminal background check.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, and stretch. This job requires the employee to be able to read, write and communicate verbally in English.
