Dana-Farber Cancer Institute Satellite Facilities Manager in Boston, Massachusetts

This position is fully onsite Monday-Friday from 6:30am-3pm.

  • Manage others to ensure that all materials, equipment, and other resources required to run these shops are available.

  • Submit work orders, ensure that work orders and preventive maintenance work is completed in a timely manner.

  • Set priorities for the shops and conduct training as needed.

  • Recommend or initiate personnel actions, such as hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, and disciplinary measures.

  • Assume responsibility for other trades during vacation periods as needed.

  • Interface with other supervisors and contractors as needed to perform work on projects done jointly by DFCI and contractors.

  • Coordinate all aspects of snow removal, to include staff scheduling, liaison with plowing vendor and ordering supplies.

  • Provide rotating on-call support for Support Services.

  • Oversee all contracts and vendors related to these trades.

  • Serve on committees as required.

  • Will provide project management on small projects.

  • May be required to perform outside normal job area at discretion of supervisor in the interest of a safe hospital environment.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • High school graduate or equivalent. Some college preferred.

  • Technical training and experience as a supervisor required.

  • Knowledge of blueprint reading, drafting, estimating, building construction standards, national, state, local codes and regulations.

  • Computer knowledge a must.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has direct supervision of first shift maintenance staff. There are currently 4 first shift staff members.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning, resource allocation, and coordination of people and resources.

  • Ability to consider the relative costs and benefits of potential actions to choose the most appropriate one.

  • Must have a sense of responsibility and timing in order to maintain and operate the mechanical systems in a hospital environment with minimum down time, cost, and meet established commitments.

  • The ability to communicate effectively at all levels with the ability to understand interpret, and adhere to established standards, procedures and guidelines as set forth in Plant Engineering Procedures, specifications, and other documentation.

  • Must possess a high degree of electro-mechanical numerical and leadership skills.

  • Must be “self-starter” with high degree of initiative to correct problems as they arise.
