Summary Statement

Youth Activity Instructor-Sailing:

  • Instructs youth & families (ages 12 +) in the sport of sailing.

  • Work is performed in a class setting and will be indoors and outdoors (open, flat water).

  • This position is designated as At-Will.

Essential Functions

Ensures the well-being and safety of program participants. Works with supervisor to research, develop, test and implement an appropriate class curriculum. Prepares materials and supplies for class. Makes sure sailing equipment and supplies are in good working order and notifies supervisor when items need repair or replacement. Maintains rosters and attendance sheets for duration of class. (100%)

Performs other duties as assigned. Nothing in this job description restricts management's right to assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this position at any time. Total Percentage = 100%

Requirements

Required Knowledge, Experience, And Training

U.S. Sailing Small Boat Instructor Certification mandatory

First Aid & CPR Certification

National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA) Certification for Idaho

Safe Sport for Sailing Certification

18 years or older

Ability to deal with individuals in a friendly and tactful manner; work varied hours including evenings and weekends; display an attitude of cooperation and work harmoniously with all levels of city employees, the general public and other organizations; communicate effectively in the English language at a level necessary for efficient job performance; complete assignments in a timely fashion; understand and comply with all rules, policies and regulations; maintain prompt and regular attendance; perform all essential and marginal functions as assigned by an authorized employee, supervisor and/or manager with or without a reasonable accommodation

Preferred Knowledge, Experience, And Training

Two years' experience working with youths from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Five years’ experience with the sport of sailing and power boating.

Appointment to this position is contingent upon a negative pre-employment drug test.

Physical Efforts

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally lifting/carrying up to 75 pounds. Also, the employee is occasionally pushing/pulling up to 100 pounds. The noise level is occasionally moderate. Work includes sensory ability to talk, hear, smell and touch. Work in this position also includes close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. Employees will sit, stand and walk.

The work environment will include inside conditions, outdoor weather conditions, extreme temperatures and in wet and humid conditions.
