What you’ll do:

As a Production Manager you will provide day to day leadership and management of the Production department and team, communicating with all other departments and the Site Manager. You will manage Production by prioritizing the workload between Production, test and finished goods departments and are responsible for formulating lead times based on resource and material availability for orders raised by Engineering and Customer Services. You will also be expected to take ownership of health and safety, team assessment and development, holiday, HR issues and resource planning for the Production team whilst driving improvements in productivity, safety, and any other departmental area of interest. The Production Manager should identify key projects and delegate responsibility where necessary to drive business improvement across the department and business. Additionally, to this they will be expected to forecast resourcing and capacity needs based on workload and make decisions as to staffing levels for discussion with senior management.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Department resource management / Planning and assigning work to the production workforce.

  • Set and deliver departmental strategy, goals & objectives.

  • Customer satisfaction – ensure department maintains focus towards meeting and exceeding customer expectations (including OTD, Quality, issue investigation & resolution and general responsiveness

  • Lean – lead and develop a strategy to deploy appropriate LEAN initiatives to enhance business operation and drive continuous improvements.

  • Process & procedure review and enhancement across the department

  • Department Metrics – maintain & development of key metrics CONC, CRSD, CPSD, Cost Out, Inventory, DOH, Efficiency, Productivity, OPQL etc.

  • Continuously initiating and delivering improvements on efficiency, quality and productivity

  • Reduction of waste using techniques within ISO 9001/2000 standards, material cost reduction and LEAN guidelines

  • Focus & ownership upon driving site Cost Out initiatives in conjunction with the Supply Chain

  • To own departmental and assist site wide company initiatives in EQS, ELSS, ISO14001, MESH, OpA etc.

  • Staff development through effective training schemes & development plans to enable effective departmental succession and support. Development of ‘Top Talent’ to support site OCA.

  • Training employees to enable total flexibility within the workforce.

  • Managing site stock effectively within the production environment and to assist & drive site inventory reduction activities.

  • To lead & assist product development in the trials of new products, processes, and techniques.

  • Maintaining a safe and efficient working environment for all staff. To lead and drive an effective department EHS performance.

  • Authority for hiring, termination, discipline, and performance decisions

  • Chair the daily Tier 1 / Tier 2 meetings ensuring communication within the team and site is clear and concise.

  • Provide site leadership support in the absence of Site Operations Manager

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Knowledge of MRP systems within a manufacturing environment (MARPACS / SAP)

  • Excellent understanding of production, manufacturing & assembly processes

  • Fluent in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Ability to communicate on both a local and global level.

  • Experience of creating, tracking and driving departmental KPI’s

  • Green / Black belt and experience in deploying lean tools in a production environment.

  • Good problem solving and analytical skills using standard tools (8D, A3, 4UP’s etc)

  • Desire to co-ordinate and manage a team of people.

  • Strength in building organizational capability; proven skill in recruiting the best talent, managing performance, and developing people.

  • Competence in strategic thinking with demonstrated ability to manage globally across multiple functions and matrices.

  • Superior communication skills and team leadership skills

  • Developed competency in conflict resolution and crisis management.

  • Proven experience in process development, implementation, and sustainability

  • Proven professional ability to drive results in a matrixed organization by developing and empowering teams and unifying employees in multiple and diverse functions and business groups and/or remote global locations.

  • Positive performance history with proven history of results achievement and demonstrated leadership competency.

  • Ability to meet deadlines - a self-starter.

  • Numerical abilities to ensure accurate and timely ordering of materials.

  • Experience of LEAN techniques (including JIT, Kaizen, Kan Ban, etc.)

  • High levels of drive and enthusiasm towards trouble shooting, resolving day-to-day production / business issues and a genuine desire towards continuous improvement
