Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking a Payroll Accountant – Boca Raton, FL.

Summary of Responsibilities include:

  • Perform monthly general ledger payroll-related account reconciliations, identify and resolve discrepancies.

  • Manage all processes associated with Payroll Accounting for fiscal year-end close.

  • Maintain and update Payroll Commitments and Fringe Table.

  • Troubleshoot Commitment and Obligation issues for the FAU Community related to Payroll Accounting.

  • Balance payroll accounts by auditing information, identifying and resolving discrepancies, and initiating journal entries.

  • Perform bi-weekly validation of payroll and benefit expense charges by reviewing the trial balance.

  • Run biweekly broken Smart Tag report, communicate errors to appropriate areas, and create payroll accounting adjustments or costing allocation changes to correct broken smart tags as needed.

  • Manage Fix Operational Journal process and coordinate with departmental cost center managers to correct/adjust journals in error.

  • Coordinate with Treasury to reconcile all incoming refunds from DSGI.

  • Implement system of new functionality as it relates to Payroll Accounting/Commitment Accounting.

  • Maintain and update payroll accounting adjustments training job aid and provide training and process payroll accounting adjustments if needed.

  • Manage mass upload of costing allocation changes for all job extensions, coordinating the Human Resource Department.

  • Perform monthly reconciliation for salary and fringe to verify that all University and Grant fringe rates are correct and process entries as needed.

  • Create and update Grant Allocation Rules associated with all new earnings, fringe, and fiscal year-end.

  • Support the FAU Workday Helpdesk ticket system as it relates to payroll-related inquiries.

  • Assist with implementing, maintaining, and monitoring payroll accounting control and procedures.

  • Coordinate with manager to implement system of new functionality as it relates to Payroll Accounting/Commitment Accounting.

  • Assist the manager with special projects and reports and complete additional fiscal responsibilities as assigned.

  • Perform additional job-related duties as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization; or a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of appropriate experience required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or a closely related field.

Two years or more of professional accounting and/or fiscal management experience.

Public university or local government payroll accounting work experience, highly preferred.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Ability to handle multiple tasks or responsibilities at once, manage time effectively, and provide strong customer service support to internal/external constituents.

Salary:

$65,000 - $70,000 per year.
