CHI St. Alexius is looking for a RN to join the Vascular Access Team!

Looking for a RN who believes in the power of #humankindess. RNs with CHI St. Alexius function as a vital member of the healthcare team who contributes to the success by demonstrating customer/patient focus, effective communication, professionalism, and teamwork. This individual will utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care provided to selected patient populations and their families.

JOB SUMMARY / PURPOSE

A Vascular Access RN is a Registered Nurse, operating within their scope of practice, who has expertise and certification in Vascular Access. The nursing position is responsible for vascular assessment and placement of the appropriate vascular access device which would include: PICC (Peripherally Inserted Central Catheter) Lines, Mid-Lines and peripheral lines. The RN is responsible to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care to the specific group of healthcare consumers who require vascular access devices to further their care across the continuum. The RN will function as part of a Vascular Access Team.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Follow the nursing process which includes: assessment, plan, implement and evaluate patients who require vascular access device (VAD) placement.

  2. Demonstrates the assessment skills necessary to assess the patient’s vasculature, medical history and plan of care for each patient and ultimately choosing the appropriate device.

  3. Placing adult VAD’s: PICC, Midline or Peripheral IV lines.

  4. Troubleshooting complications of VAD’s to assist nursing staff, acting as a resource in vascular line maintenance, dressing, and de-clotting.

  5. Collaborate with providers to discuss appropriate placement of VAD’s

  6. Obtains informed consent for PICC line insertion.

  7. Provides patient teaching regarding PICC, Mid-lines care and maintenance.

  8. EMR documentation of assessment and placement of VAD’s.

  9. Expertise in sterile technique and time-out procedures.

  10. Monitors quality metrics surrounding PICC line insertion, care and maintenance.

  11. Maintain knowledge and competency level through continuing education related to vascular access and infusion therapy.

  12. Achieves and maintains certification in Vascular Access (VA-BC) within 2 years of hire, and on-going continued education to maintain certification.

  13. Preferred experience with ultrasound guided IV placement, VAD’s and infusion therapy.

  14. Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Required Education: Graduate of an RN nursing program

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • Active RN licensure in the state of North Dakota, or compact nursing licensure

  • Basic life support if required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include the following: American Heart Association.

  • Certification in Vascular Access (VA-BC) required within 2 years of hire.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • 3 years experience in acute care required.

  • Knowledge of current nursing practice, in particular, vascular access, critical thinking skills, professional verbal and written communication skills, technical/computer skills, attention to detail, customer service skills, adaptability, maintain confidentiality.

PREFERRED Qualifications: BSN preferred. Critical Care or Emergency Department experience preferred.

Pay Range

$33.35 - $47.79 /hour
