United Rentals Region Product Development Manager in Birmingham, Alabama

As a Regional Product Development Manager (RPDM) at United Rentals, you will act as a single point of contact for Power/HVAC products and services for strategic/key accounts within the Trade area, District or Region. You will act as the Power/HVAC liaison with national account managers, government account managers, strategic account managers, and sales representatives from all Company business units. You will be a technical resource for engineered power and HVAC systems, providing training and project support to customers for new and existing product lines, while educating other Company business units on power and HVAC products and applications. As an RPDM, you will drive incremental profitable revenue for the power and HVAC business within the company through lead sharing and trade area cooperation.

What you'll do:

  • Key Account Single Point of Contact

  • Target and focus on the development of “Key Account” relationships for UR Power/HVAC division within District(s) or assigned geography. Work with local sales representatives and all business unit branches in assigned trade area(s) or Region to drive incremental revenue for these accounts

  • Work closely with strategic account managers, government account managers, national account managers and local sales representatives, to provide their larger customers power and HVAC products, services and technical expertise

  • Lead liaison with major disaster related projects and management of all hurricane or disaster contingency plans

  • In partnership with Management and Sales Reps, manage rate structure for larger projects to maximize return on investment

  • Accompany sales representatives, as subject matter expert, on more technically complex sales calls and assist sales representatives in selecting the proper equipment to provide the customer with the most cost effective solution

  • Manage Power/HVAC Division new projects and related fleet

  • Oversee specialty fleet movements between branches/districts to satisfy large projects and key account customer needs

  • Develop & conduct engineered power and temperature control application training, and repair and maintenance programs for sales and service staff, with a focus on safety

  • Working closely with corporate sales/business intelligence, provide leads to sales representatives using SFDC, Dodge, PEC and other information tools. Use data tools to identify large customer projects such as military bases, industrial plants, power plants, etc early in the project timeline

  • Other duties assigned as needed

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of experience and education

  • Minimum 7 years of technical rental sales experience in the Power/HVAC trench safety product/services line

  • Minimum 3 years of sales supervisory experience, with ability to effectively train, motivate and influence all levels of the sales/management organization

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of all new Power/HVAC products and technologies being developed and implemented in the marketplace or trade area, and the opportunities available for Power/HVAC market expansion in the rental industry

  • Firm working knowledge of existing Power and HVAC products and applications and how they are used in the rental market

  • Strategic selling and advanced negotiation and customer service skills

  • Understanding of business accounting principles and budget preparation; business acumen

  • Engineering/mechanical aptitude: Ability to properly spec, quote, install and maintain large projects

  • Skilled communicator-written and verbal

  • Proficiency with SFDC, Dodge, PEC or other CRM software; Proficiency with MS Office (specifically Word, and Excel)

  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking, trade area cooperation and teamwork skills
