Position Title: Product Shipping Agent

Position Purpose:

This position provides safe, cost effective, and timely shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous plant fertilizer and chemical products.

Essential Functions:

Railcar & Truck Shipments

  • Prepare Department of Transportation (DOT) required shipping documents for all product shipments including anhydrous ammonia, ammonium sulfate, cresylic acid, diesel exhaust fluid, krypton/xenon, naphtha, liquid carbon dioxide, liquid nitrogen, phenol, tar oil, & urea.

  • Obtain and maintain current 49 CFR shipper certification by successfully completing initial and recurring training courses. This training ensures lawful packaging, labeling, and shipping of hazardous materials.

  • Coordinate with Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) Sales team to ensure railcar shipments are executed per the schedule. Generate Bills of Lading and include certificates of Analysis (COA’s). Distribute shipping documents to customers, marketing and N7. Maintain accurate record keeping which is subject to FRA & DOT audit.

  • Monitor product quality, coordinating with Dakota Gasification Company (DGC) Operations, DGC Chem Lab, BEPC and N-7 staff to ensure product quality standards are met relative to individual customer needs.

  • Monitor railcar weights, certification dates, inspection sheets and ensure all proper identification is complete prior to assigning shipment to customers.

  • Generate and transmit railcar shipping lists for Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railroad. Input accurate shipping information into the BNSF website which will allow the railcars to move in a timely manner and will also generate applicable freight invoices.

  • Troubleshoot and serve as a contact for Operations when they experience printing, computer, or equipment issues. Reach out for the assistance of IST, E& I, Control System staff or Mechanical Maintenance when needed.

  • Review previous days’ truck shipment paperwork, ensure shipment quantities are accurate, order #’s match, and carrier is correct.

  • Supply UDG with training materials for anhydrous ammonia truck driver training. Maintain driver records and PINs in the SAP system. Prepare cards that ammonia trucking companies use to initiate the automated loading process.

Bulk Shipments & Sample Shipping

  • Assist in monitoring railcar fleet movements daily. Trace loaded and empty railcars movements of a fleet that includes 600+ railcars.

  • Identify, and call attention to, potentially excessive demurrage situations.

  • Track estimated time of arrival (ETA) utilizing data from the railroads & Geometrix.

  • Monitor and report on all product shipments (both truck and rail) as requested.

  • Respond to customers’ requests regarding product loading status.

  • Ensure an adequate inventory of DOT specification packaging is ordered and maintained for trade sample shipments.

Qualifications:

  • Two-year degree in a business, plant operations or a related discipline; or

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED or HSED) and two years of related business experience.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficient with personal computers and Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.

  • Able to prioritize multiple projects, problem-solve, research, organize data and maintain composure in a high-pressure environment.

Typical Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

Requires frequent sitting and use of keyboard/computer; occasional standing, walking, bending, kneeling, lifting, and carrying up to 25 pounds, and reaching above and below shoulder level. Requires good finger dexterity, ability to perform close work, good hearing and vision, and the ability to speak. Majority of work is spent indoors in an office environment. Some overnight travel may be required. Occasional exposures to chemicals, dust, fumes, cold and heat. This is a Department of Transportation (DOT)(PHMSA) qualified position.
