JOB SUMMARY

As a member of the Global Insurance team, the Sr. Manager, International Insurance manages critical elements of

Marriott’s insurance programs in servicing the CALA continent, as well as providing general insurance support to the Asia Pacific and EMEA continents. Work includes the contract review and the negotiation of operational and development contracts, analysis, negotiation and placement of coverage lines, and allocation of insurance. The position has direct responsibility for managing critical components of the International Casualty, and Marine insurance programs. The position is also responsible for consult to other Owner and Franchisee procured insurance programs.

The position interacts with Marriott’s hotel operations, development, law, and finance departments, in addition to hotel owners, corporate staff/management, insurance brokers, insurers, and outside vendors. The position requires a detail oriented person with excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as a demonstrated commitment to the risk management discipline. The position will be expected to manage one’s workload with limited direction to provide necessary development and operational support to the CALA continent while serving as subject-matter expert on all matters pertaining to the international casualty and marine placements. The position also serves as consultant to other International Insurance team members.

The position reports directly to the Sr. Director, International Insurance (located in Bethesda, Maryland USA) for technical day-to-day responsibilities and strategic risk management direction. Fluency in Spanish; spoken and written is expected in this position. The position does not supervise any other associates but is expected to closely coordinate with an Insurance Analyst.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS

The Sr. Manager, International Insurance will be expected to manage their workload with limited direction to support the development, asset management, finance, casualty and marine) insurance needs of the region. The position includes the following essential duties:

Contract & Development Support

Support CALA hotel development with consult, review, and/or drafting of appropriate contractual insurance provisions.

  • Review and manuscript contractual insurance and indemnity provisions for managed and franchised hotel development.

  • Coordinate proforma premium quotes through insurance analyst and company’s insurance broker.

  • Support continent operations through negotiation and manuscription of contractual insurance and indemnity provisions for property level operational and concessionaire/vendor agreements.

  • Manage analysis and review of Business Case Analyses (BCA) in partnership with GS&S Dept. representative.

  • Educate, promote, and attempt to convert legacy Starwood hotels that are currently outside of Marriott’s insurance program.

  • Coordinate the review, of new hotel Owners’ insurance coverages for proper compliance with management or franchise agreements.

  • Create and provide insurance training support to hotels and continent operations (Legal, Development, Global Design…).

Casualty Insurance Placement & Support

  • Manage the global master general liability program to include development of renewal market strategy, underwriting data collection negotiating pricing & terms, loss & actuarial analysis, and integration of new properties & acquisitions, acting as resource, and maintaining positive broker and insurer relationships.

  • Develop and manage, with Risk Finance and brokers, rating and premium allocation process for international casualty and marine liability insurance programs; consult with and support peer regional international team members on insurance program placements, structure, and premium allocation.

  • Oversee the management of the Marine & Marina Operator’s Liability insurance programs, including development of marketing strategy, negotiation of pricing and terms with brokers, placement of coverage, monitoring of limit adequacy.

  • Manage the collection of CALA casualty and marine renewal data and administration of all Continents’ premium allocations as part of the casualty insurance renewal process.

  • Develop and administer premium allocation process for marine liability insurance program.

  • Establish and manage protocols and best practices for marinas and vessels managed or operated by third parties in collaboration with Marriott’s Global Safety & Security team.

  • Support vendor/concessionaire liability programs, including negotiating local pricing & terms, as well as marketing and advocacy of company’s global vendor program on continent basis.

  • Coordinate and manage annual actuarial analysis and issuance of program’s annual stewardship report.

  • Using loss metrics, interface with Global Safety & Security to identify and define risk mitigation or loss trend strategies in the CALA region.

  • Develop and administer semi-annual stewardship reports to continent leadership.

  • Conduct special projects as needed.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Experience

  • Six years of corporate risk management experience, insurance underwriting, broking, or related industry experience preferred.

  • Demonstrated expertise with contract review of large and complex commercial insurance programs.

  • Experience with placement of foreign multinational operations and insurance programs a plus.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a collaborative work environment with senior management, owner representatives, brokers, peers, and subordinates.

  • Demonstrated expertise with large and complex commercial insurance programs and contract review.

Education or Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree required in related discipline preferred.

  • Demonstrated commitment to CPCU, ARM, or RIMS-CRMP course work.

Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

  • Fluent spoken and written Spanish.

  • Strong corporate insurance technical skillset.

  • Strong ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities between different roles of responsibility and supervisors.

Location

This position will be based at MI’s regional office at Plantation, FL. The position will be expected to undertake periodic visits to MI HQ in Bethesda, Maryland and into the CALA region.
