Job Description

The Project integration & Interface Manager oversees global plant integration and coordination of disciplines, considering the quality/cost/time delivery criteria.

  • He/she organizes design review plan, identifies, obtains, monitors and implements the various technical interfaces on GRID complex large HVDC project.

  • He/she is empowered to be the focal point of both internal and customer technical interfaces. Those being physical interfaces in regard with the scope of supply (geographic limit, connection point, equipment interface…), design interface responsibilities between participant (studies input parameter, drawing…) or service interface (training, transport, E&C, …). He/she is responsible of delivering in respect of the SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) the engineering packages to the customer.

Project Technical Interface Manager has the capacity to perform his/her mission on projects which are classified “full set” according to EMH (GE Engineering Management Hand Book) and specifically 'complex large project' using a combination of 3 criteria for complexity assessment:

  • Technical complexity: HVDC / FACTS content or offshore platform

  • Coordination complexity: cross-regions, multi-sites, or complex logistics

  • Other complexity: First of a Kind or Civil Works content

All HVDC projects are considered as Complex Large Projects

Key missions of the Project integration & Interface Manager:

Project management

  • Scope of work & time schedule

  • Provide input to PED (Project Engineering Director) for the DOR (Division of Responsibility) coherence and application, as well as the overall project strategy

  • Consolidate provisional drawing lists issued by each discipline

  • Check coherency of links between global engineering activities based on interfaces between disciplines and with other project functions (sourcing and procurement, construction, commissioning) third parties. Close to the engineering planner, he/she makes sure that the engineering planning is consistent

  • Ensure on time delivery of design to stakeholders with suitable quality including partner documents, anticipate and mitigate with discipline DPEM’s delivery issue

  • Give necessary input to PED for management/ monitoring detailed execution progress and short-term plan

  • Manage Project engineering workload plan at Project level and request resources arbitration if needed.

  • Lead Project engineering teams, define clear objectives and set priorities for each discipline in respect of our commitments in Quality, Cost, Delivery and the project strategy.

  • Support PED in virtual management session

  • Support PED in engineering variation management

Process & Interface Management

  • Organize and manage multi-disciplinary design reviews

  • With customer and certifier (if any)

  • With main subcontractors or internally when several disciplines involved

  • He/she will be focused on interface freeze

  • Together with the document control leader, he/she proposes to the PED technical document management for the project: tool set-up, delivery process, Master drawing list, Review follow up, project KPI’S, etc.

  • Under the responsibility of the PED, he/she defines and validates the Engineering Quality Plan (including Interface Management Plan, Engineering Management Plan, etc).

  • Establish and or implement the technical interfaces (incl. interface sheets) and data exchange between project members, customers and third-party contractors

  • Reviewing the standard technical interfaces datasheets and customizing it if necessary to the project requirements. (In liaison with the Plant Integration Project Engineer)

  • Responsible for the proper implementation of interfaces in Technical Requisition, Technical specification

  • Coordinate involved technical disciplines, in term of interface synchronisation and input data management

  • Organize review of FAT procedure and request resources, function of project strategy

  • Prepare necessary data for the Return of experience and knowledge capitalization

Project strategy & Risk management

  • Participate in design strategy elaboration with PED

  • Deploy and secure a ‘’not to exceed dimensions approach” based on knowledge capitalization

  • Accountability to warn PD, PED, CM, for interfaces issues generating delay, risks and opportunities

  • Supporting the Risk Manager in the management of the Technical and Operational Interfaces risks

  • Review & assess engineering change request impacts on interfaces and / or ensure effective implementation of changes to interfaces

  • Manage Technical Interface issues up to resolution

Customer Technical interfaces relationship

  • Acting as a point of contact for GE Grid Solutions for the Customer and the Customer’s Contractors having an interface with GE Grid Solutions

  • Analyse customer technical requirements at project launching in collaboration with each DPEM’s to identify scope limits and gaps

  • Track and Manage customer comments, Technical queries in matter of interface during project execution and launch appropriate actions to have clear and agreed interfaces.

  • Manage the adequate interfaces agenda content for the Customer Design liaison meeting

  • Coordinate Customer technical interface request or comments with the Participant

Design expediting

  • Review and approve multidisciplinary project technical documentation (project basic design , data specification, plant layout, SLD,…) to enable plant detailed design.

  • Coordinate the preparation of the engineering subcontracting activities (scope, deliverables, inputs, schedule,)

  • Check effectiveness of design against delivery of contract requirements and interfaces defined within project COE budget and look for global cost optimization during basic design

  • Coordinate and consolidate OMM execution

Health and Safety

  • Implement design freeze and EHS in design

  • Demonstrate EHS leadership

  • Sets the example by demonstrating the proper acts and actively observes work conditions and behaviors, giving constructive feedback and celebrating EHS effective prevention.

  • Actively participates in defining corrective actions when work is unsafe or when an uncontrolled risk is observed.

  • Routinely observes routines and behaviors of others and provides immediate feedback regarding unsafe behavior and celebrates achievements or safe behaviors.

Performance Measurement

  • On Time Delivery of the engineering

  • Management of Client ‘s Requirements

  • Management Evidence of Interface Management plan and associated follow up tool

  • No gap of interface discovered at site, no serious claim from main suppliers linked to grey zone in interface definition

  • Customer satisfaction

  • Design strategy formalized and displayed

  • Data ready on time for monthly report: KPI’s in place and displayed

  • Project workload plan done on regular base

  • Project design cost mastered

  • Design change process used to manage interfaces and engineering changes

  • Zero safety deviations, no safety non-conformances on interface points

Desired Profile & Experience

  • Master of Science’s Degree and Electrical Engineering

  • 10 + years of Experience in engineering and or Project Management in EPC type environment in T&D, Power Gen or O&G industry

  • Experience of multi-disciplinary project with multiple interfaces and with products coming from several countries

  • Demonstrates ownership & accountability, judgment and decision making, influences & inspires team, creates a vision and strategy, and has passion for the role

  • Knowledge on Engineering process including civil, time schedule

  • Knowledge of GRID factories and products

  • Strong influencing and relationship building skills

  • Knowledge of project execution risks and financial processes

  • Willingness to work in different locations for short or medium period and to travel worldwide.

  • Demonstrated presentation skills and ability to succinctly communicate complex messages

  • Global experience and mindset including high technical cultural competence and sensitivity
