We are looking for a Principal Solution Architect for our Supply Chain domain to join our team and help us deliver a Supply Chain platform to support our core business operations. This underpins a broad and complex operation covering Openreach engineers, BT's Business (B2B) and Consumer (B2C) provisioning the hardware that enables the services we provide and the products that we sell across the Group

BT Supply Chain fulfil around 350,000 orders every day across Engineering & Non-engineering from a selection of around 100k+ different product SKU’s and are supported by over 1,000 supply chain professionals.

This is a key role in the modernisation of BT, working with a wide range of stakeholders from Managing Directors, to customers/users and delivery teams to enable the outcomes. The role is accountable for end-to-end architecture from influencing strategy, roadmaps and technology choices, to ensuring the architecture is delivered and lands with users successfully working through with low level designers and engineers.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate should be able to:

• Analyse the business requirements and translate them into technical specifications and architectures.

• Design and integrate BT’s Supply Chain solutions using various technologies, such as APIs, microservices, messaging, cloud, and SaaS.

• Support design, debug, and performance analysis on Supply Chain implementations.

• Ensure the quality, security, and compliance of the Supply Chain solutions both against our specific company requirements and broader industry regulations.

• Ability to direct and guide a team of architects, solution designers and engineers in the tribe, helping support the planning and implementation of solutions through conception to delivery.

• Identify emerging trends and technologies within the Supply Chain sector to shape our roadmap for better outcomes through innovation and growth. This includes influencing stakeholders to support and sponsor the strategy/roadmaps.

• Understand our overall Supply Chain platform, associated products and work closely with relevant BT systems and tribes to ensure technical alignment.

• Ensure our Supply Chain capabilities stay ahead of the curve and can exceed customer expectations.

• Work with other Enterprise Architects and Business stakeholders to develop and execute strategies to ensure BT is a market leader in delivering customer-centric Supply Chain capabilities.

• Document and share the best practices and lessons learned from the Supply Chain projects.

What you’ll be doing – your accountabilities

• End-to-end Architecture Strategy/Roadmap and Design of the Tribe product/ solutions

• Sets and drives the architecture strategy/roadmap aligned to the Tribe’s vision. Drives adoption of the strategic architecture, balancing the outcomes needed of the tribes (including transition states)

• Recommends to the Tribe Lead the expected outcomes balancing customer value and technical debt

• Guides on the technical shaping and feasibility estimates for epics and features, identifying major dependencies.

• Understands the wider BT strategic architecture relevant to Tribe products (re-use) and collaborates with other Sub-Domain Architects to ensure the sub-domain strategic architecture runway aligns with business needs and timescales (demand planning)

• Drive Tribe engineering excellence, quality assurance and technical debt optimization and backlog of tech debt the tribe has built.

• Tribe product/solution architecture meets the nonfunctional requirements:

• Performance - Ensure the continued uptime/reliability, integrity, performance and maintenance of the Tribe’s experience layer.

• Security – Ensures security by design and security compliance with all work in the tribe.

• Economics – Optimizes the TCO of the tribe architecture, ensuring the affordability and long-term sustainability of the IT with the sub-domain architect

• Modernisation – Ensure the tribe is following Cloud native guardrails and modernizing the relevant tribe components.

• Leads the creation of re-usable patterns and low-level designs with an eye on the longer-term trajectory of both the supply chain space and broader IT adoptions (e.g. AI, SaaS, Opensource)

• Stakeholder engagement - Support the tribe lead with stakeholder engagement to develop and gain support for proposed solutions, providing technology expertise and identifying efficiencies within deployed Technology.

• SME - Operates as an SME within own field of expertise and acts as expert advisor to other teams and senior management on the most complex architecture related issues.

• Customer Centric – Promotes and adopts empathy driven design for customer centric products.

• Inputs into the budget planning process to ensure the relevant funding needed to advance the architecture is requested and identify where lack of funding is slowing the overall architecture rollout down.

What you’ll need:

• Proven experience as a Solution Architect or a similar role in the Supply Chain domain (5 years+)

• Strong knowledge of Supply Chain solutions and common business processes across order management, warehousing, logistics and reporting – both operational and strategic. Ideally you have knowledge of market leading solutions in those spaces with a specific emphasis on SAP, both legacy and S/4.

• Product mindset, iterating architecture in line with the Agile delivery approach to drive maximum business value

• Experience of architecting digital products

• Experience with agile development methodologies and tools

• Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills & strong stakeholder management experience from junior developer through to Director

• Experience of Enterprise Architecture Frameworks including TOGAF, and their relevance to the practice of Enterprise Architecture (TOGAF certification not essential)

• Nice to have – experience of go-to-market strategies for digital products and the architectural considerations involved in commercialising a product.
